Quoted from WFC forum: Worrying article this afternoon posted on The Athletic. Comes from David Ornstein, not Leventhal. Won’t copy it here for obvious reasons but key points: Wage deferrals are in the pipeline. BUT... Discussions are not easy. And are being made harder by distrust between squad and the board. Distrust stems from the squad believing they are owed £5m pro-rata for bonuses for last season. The club claim the amount is £2.2m. Yet still haven’t paid. The reason for not paying is because of this seasons form. The bonus schedule had to be filed with The PL before the first game of last season (Brighton) but was cobbled together at the last minute as they couldn’t agree a deal all that summer. The players are aggrieved that they believe the club inserted a clause that gives them ‘absolute’ discretion of paying any bonuses achieved. Players say this wasn’t what was agreed and they would never have signed the contracts knowing this. Accusations that the club have been very underhand. The issue was swept under the carpet somewhat when Nigel Pearson arrived. But had surfaced in group chats again between the squad, for obvious current reasons. Some players are really not happy and Deeney and Duxbury working tirelessly to get things sorted. Each player has so far contributed £5k to the ‘players together’ fund (£130k total) and this will continue at regular intervals going forward, with Watford Hospital/Local NHS the next beneficiaries. Players also aggrieved that staff members from last season didn’t receive achieved bonus payments and the club have blamed a change in performance review schedule ---------- Wouldn't be surprised if this happens at a lot of clubs .. Probably explains why players don't want to take a pay cut generally. Don't trust their clubs.
Has this has this had a bearing on how this season has gone, with players maybe not putting in their 100% every game?
Thanks for that, Mark. Yes, very worrying. If the club aren’t as good as their word, that hampers future negotiations too. And as HHTFC1 asks, is that the reason for playing beneath their full standard this season?
That definitely causes a mental issue motivationaly . Surprised the owners weren't quick to resolve it at the time. Also think some were better off than others.
This does seem to be a mess and now it's in public the Pozzos won't like it. Apparently it's before the Brighton game we won 2-0 so basically an issue from 2 summers ago !
Goal of the season - so far. I wonder if there'll be any more this season? https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...aila-sarrs-second-goal-liverpool-best-season/
How many players can you get who played for us at Wembley? https://www.sporcle.com/games/michaelpeter50/watford-at-wembley-semis-and-finals Got 55 - didn't get some of the 84 or 2016 team .
Very impressive. 30. The clock didn’t help. If I’d had the day, I would’ve got to about 45ish. I mean, I missed Les Taylor!! That’s unforgivable. How did I get Ngonge and miss Les Taylor???
Anyone like me who attended the last home games and the FA Cup Final would be entitled to ague they should not have been paid their basic salary never mind bonuses After the Semi Final we were 7th and in the Cup Final, at the end of the season we were 11th just, and humiliated in the final Luckily, or unluckily I had already renewed my season tickets
I don’t see why you would wish ague on yourself or anyone else who saw those games, duggie. Not at this time, surely?
