We haven't got the levels of Italy, Spain and the USA (or China) but are still allowing passenger aeroplanes to fly in and out of Britain to and from those destinations. That is exactly how the virus entered this island in the first place
As far as I'm aware the only possible way to become infected is through human contact. Therefore the only way to prevent it, as things stand, is to avoid contact with infected humans. Flying in untested Romanians, to pick lettuce, seems to be a risk we don't need to take ... ... yet they're obviously key workers in the eyes of the government. I obviously don't understand complicated stuff like this.
I read of a British born woman of Indian descent flew home from visiting relatives in India. Her temperature was taken and she was questioned regarding symptoms on leaving India but not when entering the UK.
I would prefer we just gave the lettuce man 80% of his likely profits for this year . The country can manage without lettuce - most of our junk food loving population don’t go near it anyway .
Should Branson, worth about £5bn, living on an island paying no taxes, be given £500m of uk tax to bail out his airline?
The problem is that they're usually billited in close order and, therefore, if one is infected they'll all be at risk.
Well 'he's a bit of a character' so I think we should make it more tbh. After all we were told he was just what this country needed ... ... the bloke's a national hero to be fair. please log in to view this image
My son finally made it back here to Italy last week. He'd been working in a restaurant in Florida (you can imagine how that experience worked out!) Anyway, his temperature was taken on his return in both Rome and Venice airports, and his personal details details noted. He has to self-isolate for 14 days (and he can get up to five years in prison if he's caught not doing so). Every day the local hospital phone him to ask if he has symptoms. He made the joke that he feels special as the binmen have to come around specially for him to take away his personal rubbish in double-sealed bags. So that's how seriously Italy is taking people entering the country. It may be boring for my son for two weeks, but it's damn right to make sure he's not infected and can't infect anyone else.
That industry has relied on cheap labour from eastern europe for years now and it's going to be impossible to replace them all at such a short notice. And you can't just leave the crops in the ground to go to waste like, they need to be picked. After all, we need food and leaving it in the ground will only lead to shortages and price rises. While I don't think it's ideal, I do wonder what other options were available to actually get the workers the farms need.
Sadly I agree with most of that. I'm just not sure that lettuce is critical and, if it is, there are lots of servicemen currently available.
Now who do we think is deserving of a honour/knighthood, a self serving money grabbing bastard ( who could use his wealth to guarantee a loan for his airline) or a 99 year old who has served his country in the armed forces and who now is raising money for the NHS, (none for himself)?
There are many people with honours who've basically bought them and many more who deserve them who'll never get them.
It certainly appears to be the case that we're stuck between a rock and a hard place in a few areas of life at the moment and sadly there are no easy solutions to a lot of it. Hopefully, all our actions of staying in and avoiding contact with others will start showing a reduction in hospital admissions and the NHS staff can get some sort of a break and we can have a slow easing of restrictions. Stay safe everyone.
Lockdown fever? "A huge armed police presence has been spotted outside a seafront hotel in Bognor Regis after reports of a 'man in distress'. The armed officers were pictured around the Royal Norfolk Hotel on The Esplanade and part of the seafront has been cordoned off." https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...tml?ito=push-notification&ci=13442&si=5975286at all well. I have to say, the policeman in the photo doesn't look please log in to view this image
The only ways to leave lockdown and prevent a resurgence of this virus is by relentless monitoring, contact tracing, testing and quarantining the infected. But sadly such things are beyond the competence of a UK government. At least HMRC sent me an email telling me I can now claim for furlough payments. I will be amazed if it actually works.
No I said a UK government. Thay are all the same self serving bar stewards. So Labour would have had this sorted by now then eh ...
