Has anyone here seen first hand enough of Luke Shaw playing to make an informed judgement of how good he is and what his first team prospects might be? Not many people get first hand knowledge of that information. It's all about how much the club values him at because the majority of fans on both sides don't know any better. Apparently we turned down £2m from them a while back. By the time he breaks through, one would suggest his value would increase quite sharply. If we hadn't rated him very highly, we probably would have negotiated there and then. We have an even younger lad called George Mells who we pinched from Chelsea who is meant to be very good. English/Australian lad who is supposed to be the next Lallana or something. At such young ages though, it's almost impossible to judge where a young player's career might go. Until they're playing at a level where their quality can be judged (if they make it that far), it's worth telling other clubs to **** off if the player is happy. Chamberlain cost a lot for Arsenal, but they'd be raving bonkers to spend serious money on a kid that hasn't played professionally yet. Jack Stephens had actually played a few times for Plymouth and he cost nothing like that. If Arsenal haven't reallised already, they soon will that we can squeeze every last penny out of them and that they can find better deals elsewhere.
i havent seen him play but I know who houses him - he's tipped as a future England Itnl, he has played oustandingly all season, and has been named on the 1st team bench already, he is definetely one to watch
Him and Ward-Prowse WILL be knocking on the door of the first team soon, at least I hope they will be anyway.
Ignore the word loan buddy. Just the fact people are baying for Wenger's blood on the basis of a RUMOURED move for a 4th choice left back. I'd welcone the money like I did for CHamberlain. Not that it matters, we're awesome with or without, peace
They already are. Both on the bench against Preston. I reckon they'll both feature this season, although their chances may be limited if we're under pressure to win games at the end of the season.
The problem is that with the new 5 sub rule it makes it a lot harder to bring through the occasional youth player on the bench. Now you have to be fully prepared with the strongest team as possible...
Agreed, a lot of managers want 7 subs but with 2 being under a certain age, which I think can only help development and our academy.
AFC may as well put money into Saints Academy. They seem to treat Saints as a feeder club. F off Arsenal, stop trying to unsettle Saints youth players. Stick with poaching French players!
The one thing that is common about Billy Sharp throughout his career is that he likes it in the north. He has supposedly turned down a few moves when he was at Scunthorpe and Sheff Utd to some pretty big sides as he didn't want to leave the north, and more specifically Sheffield, as all his family and friends live in the area. The only way he would come, and I said this in the summer when we were linked to him, is if we paid him stupid money or he had a very very good relationship with Adkins. The key difference between now and then is obviously our great start and how poor Donny have looked so far. So if it is a loan move then it may be possible as he could come down here and realise how much better it is in the south than the north. If he doesn't like it then he can always go back in January or whatever.
They, or more specifically Wenger, bang on about bringing through youth, yet their own academy isn't anything special. They buy up other team's good, young players and try to bring them on. Fine, but they'll be pi55ing against a hurricane trying to get value for money out of Cortese. They'll soon learn.
