No spectators at British F1 on 19th July. Not even certain if it's going ahead.

Not wanting to spread alarm to child carers as it does seem to be uncommon, but I thought I'd share this so at least people were aware.

An alert to GPs says that in the “last three weeks, there has been an apparent rise in the number of children of all ages presenting with a multisystem inflammatory state requiring intensive care across London and also in other regions of the UK”.

Little is known so far about the issue, nor how widespread it has been, but the absolute number of children affected is thought to be very small,

“Abdominal pain and gastrointestinal symptoms have been a common feature as has cardiac inflammation.

England, Scotland and Wales announce just 350 new coronavirus deaths (NI have not yet reported their number).

Monday seems to be the lowest daily number for some reason, but last Monday was 449.

The Chancellor has announced a new coronavirus crisis aid scheme, offering small businesses up to £50,000 in loans that will be 100% guaranteed by the government.

Rishi Sunak told MPs the "bounce back" loans were a consequence of many such firms struggling to access credit during the COVID-19 lockdown to date.

He said the microloan scheme would be in place from next Monday, with applications to banks via a simple form and, crucially, there would be no viability test though some fraud checks would have to be completed.

"Businesses will be able to apply for these new bounce back loans for 25% of their turnover up to a maximum of £50,000 with the government paying the interest for the first 12 months," he said.

He said the sums involved meant the government could meet the risks associated with the scheme as he rejected calls, made by business groups, for the taxpayer to guarantee 100% of other emergency schemes.

People across Hull will observe a one-minute silence tomorrow to remember healthcare staff and other key workers who have lost their lives due to coronavirus. The one-minute silence will take place tomorrow at 11am.

This Sikora guy seems to be everywhere on social media, and much of what he says is pretty innocuous. And I get that he's one of the more optimistic voices on the subject of Covid-19, with people latching on to that. But he's not an expert in the field of infectious diseases from what I can tell. He's an oncologist. My missus is a doctor and has some experience of working in infectious disease environments - as many doctors will have from their training - and in these circumstances they are generally keeping schtum, as there are genuine experts out there who know more than them. Much more. Reading a bit more on this Sikora bloke over the weekend, he seems to have some very odd ideas in other fields too. Ideas that have garnered a great deal of criticism from other parts of the medical world. There's nothing much wrong in what he says in this tweet, but I worry that he's been giving people false hope on social media in other tweets/postings.

Isn't that the same photo credited to Curtis Woodhouse somewhere on here?
Also the copper needs to refresh his law, '14 cars parked closely together isn't allowed'. Nothing in the Act suggests that.

On Sunday, Humberside Police were out on patrol along the A165 near Skirlaugh when they stumbled upon a large gathering in a small car park.

“One form of exercise a day is allowed but having 14 vehicles parked up in a small car park isn’t.

“Think about contact, please respect social distancing to save lives and protect the NHS.”

It'd need a bit of work, but it seems to have prospects. <ok>

I did have some contact with him but, despite the high regard that he was held in at the time, certainly didn't consider him to be the brightest button - he totally misunderstood the relevance of a diagnostic technique that we'd developed - fortunately we carried on regardless and the method we devised has been very successful in the intervening years. I do think that his views on the falling death rate are not too far off the mark though.

I agree, though he's simply saying what others are stating too. But his views on the lockdown are being criticised by some in the medical community as being far too optimistic. And I do worry that he's a bit of an attention seeker playing in the fact that he's a doctor/professor, because he knows that many people won't look beyond the titles and see what his actual credentials are.

Oh, and congratulations on the diagnostic technique's success!
