Can anyone explain to me the thinking behind why it isn't safe enough to have spectators at a match but you can risk the lives of 300 needed to run a game? Surely if it isn't safe then it isn't safe for everyone?
The 300 figure was taken from the saintrichie123 post above.

Well it's not just the PL. Serie A players are returning to individual training on 4th May and team training on 18th May.

I must admit that I am in disbelief that they are pushing for this return.

Over 20,000 (plus ) have died over the last 2 months in the UK. It’s still rising. Whole industries will fail, people will lose jobs, businesses will close. But the Premier League want to play to save having to pay back money and cost clubs money. Frankly, I don’t care. Even if it meant Saints went bust, why should football be treated any different to any other industry.

    Rant over.

I think they’re also considering the mental health of those self isolating. The idea of getting football back on TV - albeit behind closed doors - will help but only when the curve is on a downward trend. You have to start somewhere. Small steps.

I don't buy that to be honest, most people I know have next to no interest in watching anything cheaply forced through in such circumstances.

That's just a convenient excuse for them to hide behind. It's all about the money.

They should play on the common with coats for goal posts and rush goalies.

I agree that is what's driving the PL, but what I meant was how it can be justified with the amount of people involved? The whole reason for playing behind closed doors is that it's unsafe for spectators. But having 300 people in a group is seen as safe enough or more likely a risk worth taking. Would they test everyone for each game remaining? It goes against all the guidelines even if cases are falling.

Never mind the need for emergency services, both at the game and to police the streets for certain fixtures.

The Bundesliga have said they'll use 20k tests to complete the season iirc.

It can't be justified, no matter which way you look at it. As IOG said, what is the point of having 300+ at each game when we are all supposed to be contributing to the greater good by maintaining social distancing? Does anyone really think that watching football matches in empty grounds on TV will ease mental stress? It's bollocks and is just another example of how money is seen as so much more important than health.

I can't see it happening but if it does it would likely result in one hell of a backlash when it all goes tits up. Starting the PL again would just open the flood gates and everyone will feel they can go out for a kick about if the professionals can do it. My view is the season is a write off and we should be more concerned with getting this virus under control and every day life returning to some kind of regular pattern before thinking about football.

If the premier league really cared about my mental health then they should have read not606 two years ago and not brought VAR in tbh.

Dirty Leeds! Well actually, dirty Chelsea too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52416192

One of the most watchable two games of my youth between two teams I didn't care about. But I had the slightest liking for Chelsea because they had one, Peter Osgood. And he became a footballing hero of mine right alongside Channon and Davies when he made that flying header to equalise for Chelsea who went on to win the replay. It totally made my day when Saints signed him near the end of his career. And that he really enjoyed playing for Saints. And that he was a part of the 1976 FA Cup final winning team.

And that replay was why my Mum made me a Chelsea kit to wear, because my parents couldn't find a small Saints kit to buy for my birthday, and I took it to Italy, where every kid called me Charlie Cooke. [Q: Dammit, why not Peter Osgood? A: Cause Mum couldn't sew a 9 on the back and the shorts without it pulling the material. But she could sew an 11]

Think I'll also case Saints hard with daily emails/phone calls for my £90 back for the Norwich tickets.
