Good Morning. It's Friday 1st May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Could Leeds be crowned Champions without kicking another ball?

Multiple media sources, including the Yorkshire Evening Post have strongly suggested that the only season with a realistic chance of being completed is the Premier League!

The vast amount of obstacles in the way of fulfilling the fixtures in the lower divisions apparently does not make it a viable option, and the football hierarchy want to solely concentrate on ensuring the remaining 92 games in the Premiership are completed.

This is great news for Whites fans. It means three clubs from the top tier must be relegated. If three clubs go down, three clubs from the Championship must go up!

Leeds are a point clear of West Brom at the summit of the Championship table on 71 points, and 7 points clear of third place Fulham.

What model will the EFL use to determine the final Championship table?

To be honest, unless its rock, paper, scissors it doesn't matter. Every possibility has been explored, and it's good news for the Whites.

The Athletic's Phil Hay has also written a similar article this morning. He believes that the Championship will be decided on a points per game basis.

When you work this out, Leeds would finish the season on 88 points, with West Brom on 87 and Fulham third on 80 points. Nottingham Forest and Brentford are a further five points behind on 75 points.

Kinnear still keen to complete fixtures

Leeds Utd Managing Director Angus Kinnear took part in a private conference call, along with his fellow Championship Directors and it seems that they all share the same goal - completing the season!

“The Championship clubs, along with the Premier League and EFL are working hard in tandem,”

“I know that they are benchmarking the strategies of leagues across Europe and how they intend to return to play.

“I know they want to put a testing programme in place. I don’t think it has been costed yet, but I know they feel confident that is something they can deliver.

“We have to rely on the commitment of all of the clubs to do the right thing and to try and finish the league, which I have to say, collectively, certainly in the Championship, there is a real belief that is the right thing to do.

“So, I’m hoping, in these exceptional circumstances, clubs and leagues, and UEFA will be prepared to take some exceptional measures and rely on the commitment of players as well to put football first.”

Kinnear reveals how they persuaded Bielsa to join Leeds

In another interview; this time with Sky Sports, Angus Kinnear has been speaking to Sky Sports about how they managed to persuade Bielsa to take the Elland Road hot seat.

“It was really the brainchild of our director of football, Victor Orta, who was asked by our owner, Andrea Radrizzani, if he could appoint anybody in the world, who would he appoint?

“When he said the name, I just smiled to myself, but our owner is nothing if not lacking in ambition.

“And when we went to Buenos Aires to speak to Marcelo, I thought we would have to do a really big sell in terms of the potential, the project and what Leeds United could become, and the part he could play.

“But in fact, he had already done his research and committed to the cause.

“So, we actually spent the 24 hours in Buenos Aires just talking about the players and systems, and how he wanted to play.

“I left knowing he would be the manager of Leeds United, but not having the contract that I went over to get signed.”

I don't care how we go up as long we are promoted to the premiership

We are the best team in the championship & should be rewarded with promotion no matter what!

    Bring on the premiership

Morning Elland and all. My stance has always been that there wouldn’t be any more football. No surprise. I don’t care what system they use once we go up and it’s announced soon. I want to get on with the celebrating and dreaming about next season. The ideal option and plan a would have been celebrating it in Elland road and weekend in Leeds over final weekend. As that’s a non runner, at home will do quite nicely as a plan b

    Good morning.

I'd rather see the league completed but if we were crowned champions on PPG that would make Huddersfield our title winning match. I'm sure they'd love that.

I think finishing the Championship is possible but it gets much more difficult if you want to finish League One and League Two. The Football League will probably want to keep some kind of uniformity throughout the leagues.

After waiting so long to get back to the premiership, and suffering so much disappointment (especially last season), I would love to have seen us win promotion on the pitch and for our players to have been able to celebrate in front of a packed Elland Road. It would have been well deserved.

But I also know that our ability to fcuk things up, even from a seemingly impregnable position, is legendary. So, if the season ends now with us being declared promoted I will gladly take it. Ultimately, it's the final rankings, rather than the method through which they are determined, that are important.

And after a couple of horrible months, in which two great former players have died too young, it would be wonderful to know we were finally up and to have the summer to contemplate playing once again in the big time. I really think that we have the basis of a good premiership side and that, with some judicious acquisitions, Bielsa is capable of producing football that will light up the premiership next season.

If you're stuck for tv viewing today, TG4 are showing the full Ireland England encounter from the 1990 World Cup. You could pretend its live and you don't know the result <ok>

Up until now I've been a believer in finishing the season. However, with all this time to think, my mind keeps churning over our consistently bad way of finishing seasons. I'd love to write it off as me being over-cautious, but I can't. Not with our record! It's a reality I hope we've left behind, but I'd rather not take the risk & will now humbly accept promotion without another kick of the ball. I want my cake & I want to eat it. Bugger honourably completing the season!

The latest proposal to decide who goes up seems anti Leeds. Using current points this season, less any deductions the club has previously had in the last 15 years, is obviously chosen to ensure we are hit by our 15 point deduction under Bates.

According to Walesonline, all club captains have been told by the EFL that the chances of finishing the season are rapidly diminishing. There are simply too many games and they can't do the amount of testing that would be required. The PL are to thrash out their plans on how to resume their season at a meeting today.
If the PL can complete their season then I would expect PPG to come into effect in the EFL. If not then Leeds are doomed to stay in the Championship. That's my reading of it anyway.

Never really thought about it that way before but it's more important for us that the Premier League finishes than the Championship. That at least makes it fair to relegate teams. I think everyone is more comfortable with promoting teams in an unfinished season than relegating them, especially when Villa have a game in hand in the prem.

    Afternoon all...

If we’re promoted without kicking another ball for the current campaign then that suits me, any other decision that keeps us down then I want to finish the season
