My mum has German TV on at home and they said last week that the numbers are going to be a lot higher. No doubt we'll see soon enough
You've just given me a drunken flashback. I was on duty in Cyprus with the Tartan Army last year, & was drinking with the Chief Superintendent for the (West?) Midlands Serious Crimes Squad. As I met him, I had a joint hanging out of my mouth & was feeding his underage son beer. Nice intro, eh? Don't really remember what happened later. All I can remember is the above, plus he was an old fat guy - fatter than me, I remember. Think I may have passed on the joint without thinking. Don't recall it being returned.
Glad to hear that they are getting caught, I'm part of a community group here in Northampton and we had a report just a few days back that burglaries in the area are on the increase, it amazed me as I thought most people should be at home
Me neither but 1000, 10,000, 100,000 it is all too many and I don't understand why the press and large numbers of the public are turning it into some kind of competition, do we care how many deaths other countries have compared to us? It doesn't make sense that you saw sick Italians and Spanish outside in tents because they have no hospital beds and no ventilators, we never hit anywhere near capacity, we never ran out of ventilators and yet have more deaths. It has to be down to population density? Going back to the deaths and new cases, the press want to blame the government and they keep repeating the same question, could we have done it different, could we have locked down sooner (and note they are the same ones now pressing for a return date), nobody seems to blame the mobile hairdressers, beauticians, the public not abiding by social distancing, the crowds in parks, the idiots who will be spreading this virus on purpose or the 660 arrests in Manchester who were having house parties, the thousands who were travelling to Cornwall and Devon to holiday homes.
Because of how quiet the streets are, it's reported B'ham and Wolverhampton have made higher than average arrests for drug dealing and even stopped a few with big amounts of drugs and money, in a statement they said, "they are standing out like a sore thumb"
The problem Italy had is certain areas were hit hard before they had time to prepare. 50% of their deaths have been in Lombardy which makes up about 15% of their population. London hospitals were very busy but they only make up around 20% of UK deaths and had time empty the hospitals by cancelling elective admissions. I think the only way we can compare to other countries is by looking at excess deaths since everyone reports differently.
In Australia they (the government) are trying to get everyone to sign up to an APP that will let you know via your mobile, that you have been in the presence of one a prticular person for more than fifteen minutes and advise that you move on. OK, you say, good idea. An acquaintance of ours has a friend that went cycling for exercise. They cycled for about twenty Kms when they were alerted via their 'phone that "they were twenty Kms from home. Did they have a good reason to be so far away. Turn around and go home, now!" And our government want us all to commit to this "spy" device! Yea, right.
I’m not downloading it, I’d already decided on that. The app can’t know there is a wall between you and an infected person, the last thing I want is unnecessary 14 days quarantine and when you delete the app it’s not going to leave a trace on your phone? Hackers aren’t going to be able to see when your house is empty? Too many concerns for me. I’ll guarantee there will be people downloading on to a second phone and leaving it at home if it becomes a requirement if you want to go out.
Don't think you need it. In Australia as you seem to have things under control anyway, may be different here. Will go with the download, easy to get a new phone.
Fake fake faker!!!! the apps not switched on, legislation not passed yet, and besides, as you well know, as from last friday all Queenslanders can go 50km from home....shame on you, you pom !!!!
Bull ****, Eric. We know it's not supposed to be turned on yet, so how did they contact the cyclist? and why?
649 people are reported to have died from CV-19 in the U.K. yesterday which is a lot of people, way too many. This is a 50% drop from the peak of of over 1,200 per day on April 21 and is part of a downward trend that began on April 23. I have confidence that those that are planning the resumption of all facets of life are using this data to project when the numbers will fall to manageable levels and plan the safe resumption of various facets of life accordingly. In the US, the experts have been talking of a 14 day downward trend as a prerequisite to easing stay at home measures.
It's a joke Jonny. We had over 6k new cases today. In two weeks time a % of that 6k will die (around 5%?). Numbers are still too high. This last week, restrictions have already loosened. It's not official, but it has already happened. The local fish and chip shop was allowed to open LAST week. Us in the UK have had a very 'easy' lockdown. Very loose. It's why numbers are not dropping the same as elsewhere. We haven't done the hard yards! Oh well! At least we got Cheltenham done.
