I had the same reaction, to listen to Trans euro express or the Autobahn album on head phones is a thing of wonder

I shed tears upon hearing the news (as I will be when similar news
is announced for Ralf Hutter) . Kraftwerk have been so important to me
in the nigh 40 odd years that I have been seriously listening to
    electronic music.

IMHO there is only one track worthy of celebrating the lives of any
of the members of the Kraftwerk 'classic configuration' ...

And the lovely Millie Small has also left us. :(

I dedicate this one to :

The Admiral (Revival DJ - formerly of the now defunct Ragga FM, and
fellow Spurs supporter) , who I don't think I ever heard play this track once
on air without not laughing at her squeaky voice on the fade-out. :)

and this one to express how some of us have always felt about her :

Rat's got a new band...and this is the new single...and it's rather lovely. The boots are pretty funky too.

    Enjoy...

Not only is today Sunday...and I ****ing hate Sundays...it feels like the Sunday at the end of the school holidays, with a definite sense of foreboding as to what lies in store in the days ahead.

I'm glad this weather's not going to be lasting too long...but as it's going to rain, it's definitely a day for The Smiths.

The most recent Damned Show episode deals with the thorny issue of The Old Grey Whistle Test. It looks like high jinx but it really cost the band dear. For years, they couldn't get any tv coverage in the UK and major labels gave them a complete swerve, just as they were hitting a creative high. Unlike The Who, they certainly didn't have the money to be trashing kit...but it happened from time to time, when the drink got the better of them.

Those of an observant disposition will have noticed that the mic is taped to Dave's hand. This is indeed because he was so trashed that he kept dropping it.

Anyway, here is the footage with some commentary from Captain...

Invite a punk band onto your show to play a song called Smash It Up, then get upset because they do just that? <laugh>

No rock music, please. We're British.

    I know.

The British broadcasting industry really wanted **** all to do with Punk. Apart from TOGWT and Revolver and the odd regional ITV show, they did their best to ignore it. The Pistols were a 'no-no', The Clash would only play live and got a bit too political and The Damned got pissed and ****ed around, often seeing Captain ending up naked. It wasn't the done thing, Old Boy.

When Two Tone came around with 'nice smiley' Madness and that happy chubby fella in Bad Manners, there were huge sighs of relief all round. It's a real shame that The Tube turned up a few years late.

The Edgar Broughton Band once played Watford town hall and the staff turned off the power when they did the encore song " out demons out " the local paper reported that the hall was damaged and 4 green velvet curtains were stolen , amazingly the band were allowed to play the same venue 18 months later and came on stage wearing green velvet suits

    Now do heavy metal.
Iron Maiden's last full tour for the Book of Souls album made over $100m and the record was number 1 all over the world.
The genre is basically outlawed from the mainstream in this country, yet it still manages to top the charts, somehow.
The country that created it doesn't want it played.

JSP did 20th Century Box, which had this cracker (I own the single) as its intro...

..but there was also an earlier programme, The London Weekend Show that picked punk up.
