Over the last 10-15 years, both on here and before it on the old BBC site, what this forum lacked in numbers it made up for in quality contributors. I’m thinking about posters like Tewks, and Duckers, and Super, and I Want A Better Takeover. All people who knew how to have a laugh, but could also make intelligent & thoughtful contributions. There is nothing wrong with humour on this site. A2c showed how it could be done intelligently, carrying the rest of the forum along with him in the process. It didn’t become an incessant daily vanity project. I say with no pleasure, as someone who’s bern a member on here for longer than most remaining, that this site has become pretty embarrassing. If quality contributions count as one strange fellow posting his bland Tweets every day, along with others juvenile WUM’ing of every subject, then this forum is for you. Posting numbers & dwindling membership suggest that it isn’t for many. People abusing this forum to post crap every day should be mindful that ESI / Southall have been scanning our social media over the past week, testing the temperature of the fanbase. Reference has even been made to there being three Charlton forums. I just hope for the dignity of all concerned that Matt Southall quickly skipped over this forum, thinking that he had stumbled over something cobbled together by a couple of six year olds, high on blue coloured smarties. It’s interesting that certain people can actually post more thoughtful & intelligent stuff on ITTV and CL when they put their minds to it, which begs the question why abuse this forum through a sheer lack of self discipline? It’s a particular shame IMO that the fall from grace of this forum coincides with a time when the club is in genuine peril, and a strong & serious fans voice is more needed than ever.
Close it down and get everyone over to ITTV. By the way, if you are looking in Matthew, you are a **** of the highest order.
The decline in all Charlton forums only mirrors the decline in Charlton Athletic Football Club over the past 13 years. The Club is on its knees now, about to go under. I'm not surprised a lot of fans have lost their passion for it, and for forums. If Elfs has been discouraging other members from contributing here, that was a matter for the mod team to deal with. I think it's a bit harsh to lump the blame for our declining membership just on him. These are very troubling times, for our club and our whole way of life. Le's be patient. PS: Sadly we are far too divided as fans to have a strong and serious voice. CARD was the closest we ever came to that, but the Coalition founders did not reach out to try and get as many Charlton fans onside with them as possible, they just started throwing their weight about and telling ordinary supporters which protests were cancelled by their order. CAST has also failed dismally in uniting Charlton fans, or even engaging the interest of more than a thousand or so. Now anybody who steps up and claims to speak for Charlton supporters is ridiculed by others. Like it or not, we only really have one forum voice - CL.
I can't really be bothered with this silly thread , but to avoid digging out other posters as some like to do, maybe the lack of football might be a factor in a football forum having little going on?
I see Royston has deleted his account. Do we still have a moderator? I know there are only about 4 and a half of us at the moment, but I thought I'd ask. When the football begins again in a few months I'd hope a few more will begin to contribute again.
I'd guess it's something to do with the virus crisis. Maybe Royston is very busy doing civil service stuff, which must be pretty stressful at the moment. Perhaps in a few months when things have settled down and Charlton kick a ball again (if they ever do) he will reappear. His stated reason was that Elfs has ruined this forum and driven other members away. But I don't believe that. This forum has lost 3 or 4 respected members of long standing over the past couple of years. But not because of Elfs or anybody else I think. Just one of those things. There are still a few of us left, and as long as there are I don't really see a problem. Granted it's quiet. But if I want noise and bustle I'll go and hang around on CL for a while. Nothing wrong with a big noisy forum. I just usually prefer a smaller quieter one.
when the football comes back, so will the posters. when there's one topic on the table (e.g football) people will get on. when it's not about that anymore people will get on each others tits.
If I was the problem he should have banned me. I cannot see why he has acted in this way. All very strange and unnecessary.
You weren't the problem. On the couple of occasions you were away for a while, he pined away for your company. He'll be back one day when this virus business is sorted. < 2m >
I think the Royston V Elfs squabbles/ banter were part of the attraction on here, always put a smile on my face
