I think it's been hard for Vettel to find out he is not the driver he thought he was.

I think Sainz is going to be a right ****ing handful on a Sunday. He wont out qualify Le Clerc but he has such a solid racecraft that he will be swooping in for podiums and victories if the car has that inherent pace. A superb driver outing for Ferrari IF they manage the pair of them correctly. Constructors title odds increasing if they can out together some good cars for them.

Danny Ricciardo is my fav driver on the grid at this time and delighted he sees what I see in the McLaren project. Some fascinating stuff for 2021!

Alonso still heavily linked with Renault and until Vettel announces his retirement, i would imagine Alex Albon and Valtteri Bottas might be sitting slightly uncomfortably!

Vettel is a busted flush, he is not a threat to Bottas nor Albon. Redbull don't want nor need him. Vettel is not the future. If Renault want to stay in the sport they could be interested in Vettel. But Vettel should retire, nothing from here will improve his legacy. Maybe there is a role for him with Liberty if he wants to stay close to the sport, but, reinvention is good, if a tad tough. Life at 34, there are many experiences to be had, perhaps even the best

There are reports that Channel 4 may not show both Silverstone races live!! It seems to boil down to what the second race is called!! I guess if they call them both the UK GP then C4 can show them live, but if they call the second say the European GP then C4 will just run highlights?

I wonder how the presenters will work? Will Liberty have a core of presenters within the F1 'bubble' that will travel with the teams or will individual broadcasters just wing it from a home country studio via video links?

Anyway looking forward to watching some F1 :)

Im one of Sebs biggest critics but I thought he showed some real resolve in the second part of last year. His Canadian GP and Singapore performances stood out- the right environment and car he’d still be a very big threat.

He isn’t in Hamilton’s league though and some exceptional talents are coming through so no doubt it would be tough.

Id have some serious respect for him if he went on to lead the Renault project back to the front end of the grid although all talk seems to point to Alonso.

Red Bull need him most if they want a Constructor Title- Albon and Gasly should both be pitted against one another in the Toro Rosso and we all know where Kyvyat stands in the grand scheme of things.

Imagine Vettels legacy if he went and beat Max <laugh>

He may take some time out first who knows.

I hope this isn't the end of the road for Seb, for as much as he has choked (to be cliche) in recent times, as a person he is one of the most likeable faces on the grid.

I think in a different environment he'll be able to show his ability, and would be an epic driver for the right team. He took too much upon himself trying to lead Ferrari against a driver-team pairing of Ham-Merc that was largely faultless, few would be able to take on that sort of challenge.

Personally I think he would have been a perfect fit at McLaren, but I'm not going to complain given they got Ricciardo instead.

Everyone, even Newey, knows Seb is fast but he is lacking the racecraft these days. I put a video on here with Seb and Lewis in their young days. Seb was savvy then.
His lack of racecraft is in part down to the pressure, he doesn't like the pressure, and all of us in our own careers know pressure can make or break you.

The last few years have got progressively worse. If he could settle himself internally he could get back to winning. Going to Renault, he would have no pressure, no expectation, he could refine his racecraft.
But, I personally, don't think he can do it. Humble as he at times, the red mist is there. Maybe the real growing up moment has arrived and I hope I am wrong in my assessment.
Vettel vs Alonso...hmm. I don't think Alonso has shown the ability to perform stupid mistakes, but Vettel is an easier gig.

On the face of it, it would be a wonderful dilemma for Renault to have the choice of Alonso or Vettel at their best. But at their worst one is burnt out with their confidence shot and the other destroys teams. I find it hard to feel sorry for Renault though because they have a huge budget but don’t seem to be able to decide if they even want to do Formula 1. So none of it seems to be of much consequence.

yeah, now they kind of have to take it a bit more seriously, they've spent all that money on R&D for the engine that no one wants, they have to make it work if they want to get some teams interested in their PU.

While I appreciate his huge skills on track he does seem to be at a team that then has issues, co-incidence?

I've always been an Alonso fan for what he can do in a car. His driving talent deserved more WDCs, but I recognise that he's been a disruptive and destructive person in a team (it pains me to say it). Although we probably underestimate how frustrating it is for a driver of that standard having to drag dogshit cars up the field, and watching inferior drivers sail off into the distance. But I'm getting into chicken & egg territory, and straying off my point, which is...

He's always been one of my favourite drivers and I was sad to see him leave F1, but I'd also prefer that he doesn't return.

He clearly loves racing - he'd probably race shopping trolleys around a supermarket (maybe that's what he felt he was doing at Ferrari & McLaren).

But, for a return to be considered a success (and considering he'd be coming to a midfield team), he'd have to come back with the same driving reflexes and ability, while also being a more constructive presence outside the car. I think the opposite is more likely - I know from my own experience that father time has dulled my reflexes and sharpened my grumpiness!

He wants to compete against the best, right up at the front, in a competitive car. But that option isn't open to him.

I'll always wish we'd seen him in better cars. But I'd prefer that he doesn't come back.

Would be a good way for Mercedes to pull out of F1.
Hire Alonso, let him do his thing, and in 2 years time Mercedes will be done with F1.

And he did nothing to help sort any of them out.

Schuey got a team around him and they all worked together to become formidable. Aside from his first stint at Renault, Alonso has manged to divide the teams he then drove for.

He became part of the politics rather than do anything to control them.

Alonso is yesterdays news now. Like Mansell, I'm sure in a few years the real stories about what he was like in a team will really come out. We can see some of it whilst he was racing (like Mansell), and the fans will turn a blind eye to them when they look at some of the great drives he has done and say that all made up for it, but in reality it looks like he was a difficult person to manage and would easily spit his dummy out when things didn't go how he wanted them to.

If he was still hot property, he would have got plucked from McLaren when it was clear Honda had given them a pile of pooh for an engine in their first and second seasons.
