You could save everyone including yourself a lot of trouble if you'd just wear a pointy paper hat with a great big letter "C" on it

He has family that live a short distance from his house in London, why the need to travel 250miles to his parents home?

I do think that the Prime Ministers judgement is flawed.

The PM has missed an opportunity to bring this chapter to an end. You cannot have credibility in my view if you say one thing and then do something completely different. The idea that a man of Mr Cummings' alleged capability could not organise childcare for his family in London beggars belief.

Has the issue damaged the PM? Personally, it could be very damaging indeed.

Even with large sections of the U.K. press in the Tories pocket, I don’t see how they think they’ll get away with this.

By they I mean Boris and Cummings, mostly. But also Grant Shapps, Gove, Hancock, and anyone else who’s played the role of apologist.

I might be able to help you out there. You'd need to be flexible with the billionaire bit, but I'm good for the rest. <ok>

They wanted the opportunity to care for their child themselves unless they both became too ill and then there would be the back up of his sister who I assumed didnt have to go to work.
You don't want to tentatively arrange something with unknown carers who, if they are doing it professionally, may not have a vacancy when needed. I know there were relatives living close by but I dont know whether they had to go out to work.

A reasoned response. The words I posted weren't mine in fairness, they were those of a conservative MP this evening.

I'll give a touch more context to why I'm pretty disappointed with the PM's stance on this once I've had my tea :)

The leftie media are obsessed with Dominic Cummings because he played a big part in the referendum result and the general election result.
A Plaid Cymru MP has been arrested on suspicion of assault and the leftie media dont seem to care.

Thanks! The media on both sides are annoying for various reasons and I certainly wont argue with the idea that the next few days are going to be dominated with left-wing media obsessing over the minutia of everything they think Cummings may or may not have done wrong. It'll be interesting if any more actual facts come out, otherwise it's eminently ignore-able.

I get the reasoning of why Cummings made the trip but like many families we (my wife and I) had discussed what we would do if/when one or both of us got ill. My wife is a doctor and we just accepted the idea that she would get the condition (as early on it seemed inevitable). Following the government advice to stay home and not go and visit relatives (there seemingly wasn't much wiggle room in what Boris said) if we'd come down with Covid19 we'd have shut up shop and coped - she has many colleagues who have had Covid and that's exactly what they have done. We've got a 3 year old, a 6 year old and an 8 year old and going to other areas of the country to be near family just wasn't even on our radar as a viable option; thankfully we've not been unwell.

Irrespective of what the government say now there are going to be a lot of people who feel (I'd argue rightly) that they have made sacrifices that government advisers just don't seem to have to worry about.
