Now the Donald is threatening to close down Twatter and Facebok!!
So they cannot influence the November 2020 US Presidential Elections.

He's behaving like a hysterical despot.

What next - is he going to close down all the newspapers and TV news channels he doesn't like?
What happened to Free Speech Mr President?
    No opinions allowed except yours.
Trump is so potty, he makes genuine dictators like Putin look reasonable and civilised.

Joking aside though, it is sad to see the US going down the same route as China and Russia.
Of the three World Superpowers I've always had a more moderate and broadly sympathetic view of the USA, because for all its many faults it does have a real form of democracy and a relatively free press - at any rate, much less State controlled than that of the Russians or Chinese.

Now President Trump is undermining that strength in a way perhaps never seen before in what we call the Free World.
If all of the world's Superpowers become dictatorships where the people cannot speak without fear of persecution, it is a dark day for all of us.

It's hard to hold the moral high ground whilst looting shops and torching vehicles.

This is the price of the US never addressing the historical issue of the right to bear arms, and the issue of racism.

Police officers are so terrified of being gunned down in the streets, that every time they approach a member of the public (especially a black person) they are almost compelled to excercise extreme force in order to render that person incapable of pulling a gun and shooting them.
In those circumstances, I am surprised Black people are not shot down by Police officers every single day.
But nothing can justify crushing that poor man's throat for 9 minutes, long after he had ceased to be even a potential threat.
That behaviour deserved a lot more than just a sacking. Anybody can see that.

The incident with the white woman who called 911 and told Police a Black man was threatening to kill her, when all he did was speak politely to her, is just as revealing of the problem.

We have many race problems here in the UK.
Relations between Police and several minority communities is pretty poor.
And even here of course, our Police are still in constant fear of being stabbed without warning - by anybody, black or otherwise.

But we do not (thank God) have a constitution which gives every person the right to carry a gun.
Guns are not regarded as good things here in Britain. They are a necessary tool in a few specialised areas of society, but are generally thought of as dangerous things that we don't want anything to do with if we can possibly help it.

Just as a light note amidst the gloom, try this- I had it from Facebook.

Try typing into google the phrase Florida Man plus your birthday, and see what comes up. I got the following.

Florida man who had sex with a dolphin says it seduced him.

Ponders I don't think any of the a-holes who are looting and burning have ever held any moral high ground in their lives. The friends and family of George Floyd are probably none too grateful for what is being perpetrated in his name, and they do have the high ground, though I would imagine they would swap it in an instant.
The sad thing is how often this stuff happens. What sort of a policeman puts a knee in a handcuffed man's throat for seven minutes, and what were his colleague's thinking? You always try to imagine the police have a difficult job, especially in a country where gun control is non existent. But did any of those four morons think this guy was going to leap up, break his handcuffs through brute strength, produce a magnum, and gun them down. They'd done the hard stuff getting him handcuffed anyway. And this was a guy accused of passing a dodgy 20 dollar note not a crazy guy waving a scimitar and threatening a massacre.
I can see why the prosecutors went carefully to make sure they had the case right before arresting the murderer but given there have been a lot of cases of black men being shot down by the police with virtual impunity, you can see why patience was pretty thin in the afro-American community. And there are always a bunch of idiots happy to tag along when mayhem is in the air.

The murder of George Floyd was a heinous act, no doubt about it. The perpetrators deserve the stiffest sentences. Only then will the friends and relatives of the deceased be able to grieve their loss. It is a horrid state of affairs.

The police need to be held accountable for all acts of brutality, no matter the race of the victim. It is not just black folk who suffer at the hands of demented, power-hungry cops.

Donald Trump's deliberately offensive and provocative comments have been tiresome and risible for many years now.
But however nasty he has been in the past, the man never has a problem plumbing new depths.

Was his latest speech regarding George Floyd worded deliberately to re-ignite the violence he has railed against during the past week?
The President's words are beyond irony or parody, even of the cruellest kind.
He seems determined to polarise opinion and divide his nation.
He doesn't know how to heal. Only to hurt.

I hope the millions of protesters do not rise to his latest sick provocation.

According to some newspapers this morning, the Government is planning to scrap special opening hours on Sundays as part of a plan to get the economy moving again as quickly as possible.

When Sunday opening was first allowed, many people said that was the thin end of a wedge which would end with unrestricted 7 day opening of shops.
What a surprise - they were right.

I don't see that it will make a great difference to the economy if people can go to supermarkets or IKEA very early in the morning or until late in the evenings even on a Sunday. But it will make a difference to staff in those shops, who will be forced to work those hours or lose their jobs.
    Unsurprising though I suppose.
If money comes before lives, why shouldn't it come before God as well.

Some Race equality protesters have been targeting non-white Police officers for extra abuse during protests.

How can they justify that misdirected hatred?
Do some black lives not matter then? Like the lives of black people who feel they can best serve their communities by joining the Police?

All protesters and almost everybody else agrees that abuse of people based on their skin colour is wrong.
So how can the abuse of some Police officers based on the colour of their skin be right?

Surely Race equality protesters should embrace and encourage non-white Police officers.
The best way to combat institutional racism in the Police is to recruit more officers from ethnic minority communities, and make sure they have the same chance to advance through merit as white officers.
Abusing non-white police officers only sends a message that non-white communities reject the whole concept of policing, and law & order.
Reinforcing a stereotype belief held by some white people, that non-white folks are more likely to want to engage in criminal activity.

Non-white Police officers are not traitors to their communities.
They are brave people who believe in equality - who believe that the Police should treat everybody equally.
Exactly what the protesters claim to believe.
Singling them out for extra abuse during protests is a form of racism in itself.
