Couldn't bring myself to watch old dodgy knees lording over these guys.

Ruddock was great on Celeb Masterchef, although by the look of him he'd probably eat Greg Wallace if he was between two slices of bread.

    They all do a weigh-in and he’s 157kg!

Very funny bloke but he won’t be around in five years if the first half an hour of this are anything to go by.

Some of them can still play. Merson’s goal in the first game they play (another one somehow still alive) is sublime.

A Review/Recommendation in that series 3 of A House Through Time’ starts next Tuesday in BBC2.
As it says on the tin, the series charts the history of the residents of a certain house (this time in Bristol) throughout the years and the fascinating stories and lives these people lived.
David Olusoga, who introduces and narrates throughout is brilliant and portrays the stories with absolute passion. Well worth a watch.

Looking forward to that. I just watched another excellent documentary on BBC2, Little Ships -The Miracle of Dunkirk, by Dan Snow. It was made 10 years ago for the 70th anniversary, so there were still a fair number of participants and evacuees around to be interviewed. Their reminiscences are inspiring, moving and even funny at times. We all know the story of Dunkirk, but to hear it told by those that were there really brings it home.

I watched this documentary yesterday at the same time - it's a bit geeky but as I've worked in telecoms for over 30 years really enjoyed it....

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b016ltm0/timewatch-codebreakers-bletchley-parks-lost-heroes

    Code-Breakers: Bletchley Park's Lost Heroes

Documentary that reveals the secret story behind one of the greatest intellectual feats of World War II, a feat that gave birth to the digital age. In 1943, a 24-year-old maths student and a GPO engineer combined to hack into Hitler's personal super-code machine - not Enigma but an even tougher system, which he called his 'secrets writer'. Their break turned the Battle of Kursk, powered the D-day landings and orchestrated the end of the conflict in Europe. But it was also to be used during the Cold War - which meant both men's achievements were hushed up and never officially recognised.

I watched it too mate. Really brought a few tears to my eye hearing from the men who were there.
As usual though, I was somewhat disappointed that there was no mention of Operation Ariel, and the thousands of BEF troops that were still left in France after Dunkirk.....the way the programme ended, the general public would be led to believe that was it and all the troops were rescued, whereas it was far from the case. I even tweeted Dan Snow and asked why there was no mention of this and no mention of incidents like the sinking of the Lancastria (which my grandad was on), where over 3000 lives were lost and is still the worst British Maritime disaster in history.
As a lad he told me of being in the water after the sinking, floating for hours, covered in oil, all the time being machine gunned by the Germans planes as they tried to set the sea alight. He lost many mates that day and saw some terrible things.........I just wish it was acknowledged more.

Nah it doesn’t bother me as those guys went through absolute hell. Most of the remembrance always gets focussed on Dunkirk and my Grandad could of been one of them if it wasn’t for the fact that his unit were too late and were told to go find somewhere else ‘cos the beaches there were too full of troops.
Unlucky for him he ended up on the Lancastria........luckily for him he was on the right side when it went down and survived to sing ‘Roll out the Barrel’ on the upturned hull.
    Sad that so many didn’t.

I'm quite new to the money for old rope that is Netflix, but have just watched "Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager".

Phew! What a great watch. For me, Sir Bobby was one of those rare football types for whom the majority of the English footballing public liked. There are many for whom the division between loved and hated is more acute because of certain controversies in their career, such as the club they played for or managed. But Robson seems to be one of those whose infectious love for the game and general bonhomie towards others has transcended any particular partisanship.

Just over 90 minutes long, with contributions from Terry Butcher, Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, his widow Elsie, Gazza, Lineker, Pep Guardiola, (the original) Ronaldo and Alan Shearer, it was a great watch. His relationship with Gazza, particularly towards the end of Robson's life and certainly in the midst of Gascoigne's own challenges was moving.

His final days, raising money for cancer treatment, gave him a new purpose and the chance to head something up again after his sacking by Newcastle.

    Recommended.

Wish I could watch this but don’t have Netflix
Echo your thoughts that the man seemed to be one of those guys who was loved by all and hated by none.....a true gentleman of the game.

    Today’s Netflix documentary review...

“Duran Duran: Is There Something We Should Know”

    Put succinctly: proper band.

Middleditch and Schwartz on Netflix. Long-form improvisation, brilliantly clever and irresistibly funny. Check it out.

A few months ago my father-in-law gave me a copy of The Collini Case to read. Written in 2011 by one of Germanys top authors, it covers the case of an Italian man who lives in Germany who murders an industrialist leader in a hotel in cold blood. It follows the case as it's taken on by a junior lawyer, taking on the old guard, and there's some twists along the way in the story.

When the book came out it rode high in the charts in Germany, and without giving too much of the plot away, it's managed to help change the law in that country with regards to war criminals.

I was going to write a review of it at the time of reading, and never got round to it, but now it's been made into a film which I watched tonight. Obviously subtitled (German and Italian), and quite a good adaptation of the book. It's not overly heavy on the courtroom scenes, but thoroughly enjoyed it, probably a 7/10

Don't know if you've been getting this down there, but they've been running a series on BBC Scotland - Billy and Us. Billy Connolly reminiscing on things that have happened in his past and how he's used these to shape some of his live acts, with archive footage of Glasgow, some of his live shows and plenty of clips from his appearances on Parkinson. He's covered subjects like childhood and sex, and tonights show (episode 4 of 6) was his relationship with religion - very funny.

For any of his fans, at only 30 minutes an episode it's a must watch.

Billy and Us, Series 1: 4. He's at it Again, God: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000jv81 via @bbciplayer

We were lucky enough to see him on his farewell tour, and you could see he was struggling but he was still brilliant.
