One thing I did for the first time this week was listen to the complete Never Mind the B*llocks album by the Sex Pistols. I've got the "hits" on other various punk compilations but never owned the album and as such hadn't heard many of the tracks.

I have to say apart from the more popular/populist tracks such as Anarchy in the UK, God Save The Queen etc the rest of it was a bit average. Being fairly conversant with my music history I can absolutely see why it was such a kick up the establishment's backside at the time and groundbreaking for a number of reasons.

Pretty Vacant is the stand-out track for me, pure class.

Following on from ER's thread about The Godfather I realized that I've never watched any of them all the way through, I've only ever seen clips here and there. Can't say I am at all arsed to bother with any of them so they won't be a first for me just yet.

What have you done for the first time recently?

The Sex Pistols were front page news like no other band before or since and it’s a great album too.

I’m listening to albums while working from home, quite a few I’ve not listened to before such as Phantasmagoria by The Damned.

The Sex Pistols ffs. A manufactured boy band, the very antithesis of what punk stood for.

    Banal ****.

Assuming you’re talking about the 1978 UK release it has a median selling price of £40.

There’s no bass on most of the NMTB album tracks, and it shows. The sound is pretty tinny. Glen Matlock had been sacked by the time most of the tracks were recorded, and Sid was ****ing useless, so Steve Jones played all the bass parts on a six string.

The album hasn’t really stood the rest of time that well imo. The first Clash, Damned and Stranglers albums have stood up much better.

Might want to review that. A first 45rpm pressing of God Save the Queen sold for £800 last year. I ransacked my mum’s house looking for mine when I heard that.

I still have my limited edition green vinyl pressing of Venus de Milo by Television though. That might be worth something one day.

I did review it before I posted the current going rate.
Can't find green vinyl version of Venus, probably a counterfeit.

    Everyone has different tastes.

The Sex Pistols were manufactured by McLaren. Vicious couldn't even play the bass for ****s sake. Nothing punk about a manufactured boy band.

"Ever thought you've been had" as Lydon himself put it.

With a very few exceptions, pop music from outside the Anglosphere is utter bollox. Consider this list of ****:
    Ace of Bass
    Spagna
    Sabrina
    Julio Eglasias
    Demis Rousos
    The Cardigans
    Nana Mouskori
    Abba
    Aha
    Roxette
    Nina Hagen
    Milli Vanilli
    Boney M
    Aqua
    Whigfield

    I rest my case.

    Apologies for spelling.
