... Shame our good friend mr Cummings who proudly announced on Monday that he’d warned of the dangers of Covid (well he updated an old blog retrospectively to mention it) didn’t use his position of undoubted influence to push for preparations should it actually happen.

 

I have no detail on this. Only what we all see in the media.

Boris gets the blame for what? The care home situation? We shall have to see after the event. The FM has already called for a public enquiry.

I do know that one story doing the rounds is that PPE ordered in Scotland was diverted by the UK Government to england. That requires investigation too. Perhaps this is where Boris comes in?

 

One other thing that's just sprung to mind. I believe it was either carers from agencies, or carers from a chain of homes, or both, but it has been related several times in the media that the aforementioned carers were moving from home to home, and with lack of testing +/or PPE, this is being looked into as a critical factor. We'll see eventually, I guess, but if true, I'm lost for words.

 

That ppe story was a load of rubbish said by stupid nicole wee Jimmy Sturgeon and was false.

 

I think what ristac is getting at, a lot are private businesses and it's not the government's job to buy them things which just boost their profits, supply buy all means but they need to pay.

 

Yes I have seen the figures percentage wise Scotlands were over 40%. The figures were from early May. 8 will try to find an up to date list.

 

Yes Sturgeon had to back down, turned out England had ordered weeks before and the Jocks got upset because they couldn't jump the queue.

 

They can't have it both ways mate. They wanted to run their own affairs and she cocked it up.

England has reported the lowest rate of COVID-19 deaths per total fatalities in a study of European nations.

The study by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) provides some welcome relief to the UK government which has come under increasing criticism for its handling of the care home crisis.

The research, using ONS data as of May 9, shows there were almost 7,000 COVID-19 care home fatalities in England, amounting to 21% of 33,000 fatalities. Wales reported a higher rate of 25%, while care home COVID-19 death rates in Scotland amounted to 45% of 3,200 COVID-19 fatalities as of May 10.

Elsewhere, the share of care home fatalities per total ranged from 37% in Germany to 66% in Spain, which had seen 18,000 deaths officially reported in care facilities as of May 11.

Rates were also high in France (50%) which reported more than 13,500 COVID-19 care home deaths as of May 11, Belgium (51%), Norway (61%) and Stockholm, Sweden (45%). Italy, which has Europe’s second highest overall fatality rate after the UK, was not included in the research.

While the European comparison favoured England, it should be borne in mind that the ONS is generally accepted to be underreporting the true number of care home fatalities with the latest estimates suggesting that the ‘real’ death number of deaths is more than double their figure.

England’s protection of its care home community during the crisis bears further scrutiny when brought into comparison with Hong Kong which has seen no COVID-19 deaths at its 19 care homes.

Professor Terry Lum of Hong Kong University told a UK Parliamentary Select Committee yesterday that Hong Kong had achieved zero deaths by deploying strict infection control procedures ignored in the UK.

Professor Lum said Hong Kong had focused on preventing the spread of the virus to care homes from hospitals with positive people quarantined for up to three months, The Guardian reported.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “This is an unprecedented global pandemic which can sadly have a devastating effect on some of our most vulnerable people.

“Since the start of this pandemic we have worked tirelessly to ensure our care homes and frontline care workforce get the support they need.

‘’We have set out a comprehensive action plan to support the adult social care sector in England throughout the coronavirus outbreak, including making sure millions of PPE items are available and using our increased testing capacity to test care home residents and staff regardless of symptoms.’’

But... The elderly must have caught it from poor management. The PPE the nurses wear in hospital is for their own protection. If an elderly patient with no Covid 19 is seen by another person with no Covid 19 then PPE doesn’t matter. The elderly in care homes are catching this because of poor management. Honestly mate, you need to go round a few different ones and see how poorly they are run.

I deliver weekly to an assisted living block, gated community for over 65s. I wear my mask, I use sanitiser, I enter the building and I’m greeted by staff people who have absolutely zero PPE. It’s nothing to do with supply, they just feel they don’t need it.

 

I see carers daily, I honestly don’t want to sound racist but so many are foreign looking like they don’t give a toss, they all look like they’re on minimum wage and they are smoking outside buildings before putting their masks back on, they’re entering care homes with a protective apron that hasn’t been changed, they’re on their mobiles, they’re not using sanitiser, they’re touching key code safes and handling keys at private addresses, you really can’t blame any government for this.

If I had an elderly resident in a £1000 a week care home I’d be fuming with the management if they caught Covid. I’m honestly not on a let’s not bash Boris crusade, I just see first hand the lack care in many homes.

 

Scotland twice as bad as England, I wonder who's fault that is. LOL

 

The English of course

 

These so called care homes are disguising. I guarantee their life expectancy will take a hit as soon as they move in, regardless of the coronavirus.

The SNP's leader for Westminster, who has called for Dominic Cummings to resign over his visit to Durham, returned to the Scottish island on March 26 - three days after the UK was officially shut down to fight the coronavirus. MPs were entitled to return home from London and Mr Blackford has been based in Skye ever since.

So MPs went home but jocky waited three days after lockdown to travel to his home.

 

Well they did here eventually when it was too late. Why not buy it at the start? I know why cos the elderly are deemed disposable by these despicable politicians. Every single one of them

 

‘I don’t want to sound racist but’

they are on minimum wage, you’re not generally hiring rocket scientists. Some will be really conscientious and others not... like any other work place.

It was a bunfight for ppe, and the mixed messages/fence sitting from central AND local government were pretty scary for all concerned.

my point was the govt are responsible for the extent of Covid... once out of the box, responsibility is shared amongst a host of others. You can’t pin it all on private care homes. I know some very responsible and conscientious people in the care business who had to make decisions they should never have been put in the position to make.

The death tolls tell you the main damage was done before lock down.

 

The elderly have been made expendable by every government.

 

Well, they’ve mostly finished paying their taxes, haven’t they?
