We are just weeks away from contracts finishing...and no team as yet has been promoted or relegated....still all to decide....we know that the Premiership and the Championship will do it on the pitch behind closed doors and we assume that Div 1 might go the same way as Div 2...but we're not really sure.....watch this space.

Don't be sure about the Championship just yet. Read the Charlton story today and they will not be alone.

The EFL need to step up and make a decision. There are only two issues that define the room they have for manoeuvre: safety of players and staff and the financial survival of the maximum number of clubs. We can't all be kept in limbo forever by a minority of clubs.

Here's a statement from Simon Hallett that had to come one day but does make you think about the difficulties that lie ahead.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52907468

From the figures there, he's put in c. £6m, all of which is now equity and gives him no ability to demand repayment. Rich as he may be and whilst it's not entirely gone forever if the club does well, it's a very substantial sum for a private individual to have put at the sort of risk you find in football.

As ever with him, it's straight from the hip and we can't complain I think.

I think it'll be well into September before the 20/21 season does start and hopefully by that time there'll be the possibility of some fans attending even if it's limited to say 50% capacity.

Everyone stand up and applaud.........think that statement is very fair. I shudder to think where we would be if we still had Brent. Probably putting in a planning application for a Housing Development on Home Park. Which would never get built of course.

The EFL's extraordinary meeting has been pushed back 24 hours to Tuesday June 9th.

So just a little more waiting time to see if we're promoted or not.

The reason given is that voting papers were only given out on Wednesday 3rd and a gap of 5 days is required before an EGM can take place.

Rotherham Chairman Tony Stewart says that he believes 15 clubs in League 1 will vote to end the season when they meet on Tuesday 9th.

That will then if accepted by the EFL mean confirmation of Swindon, Crewe & Plymouth being promoted automatically from Div 2.

I see that gentleman and scholar Lyle Taylor has announced he won't play for Charlton (currently 2 points short of safety of relegation) if their fixtures are resumed as he doesn't want to risk the megabucks contract he feels he richly deserves next year.

He's had many messages of support thanks and good wishes apparently. Not the ones I've seen then.

It seems he has an offer waiting in the wings which is lucrative. Why should he jeopardise that? He is an employee and owes Charlton nothing. As people have said for ever and ever, players have a short life and nobody can blame them for going where the bucks are.

Because it's a team game. As somebody said to him, nobody's going is to want to look across a dressing room, 2-0 down away on a cold & wet Tuesday night, and think *do I trust that guy to turn it around?'".

Well my two favourite Charlton fans are disgusted with Lyle....nothing professional in his approach to a team game.....depending on each other seems to have gone out the window with this chap.

So it looks like Div One will go the same way as Div Two when they vote next Tuesday.

But Peterborough's owners are not pleased that other clubs will not play the season out.....there could be a reason for that.....it will mean that Wycombe will push Peterborough out of the final play-off position because with games in hand they will move from 8th to 3rd because of games in-hand by using the average points per game method......So next season Peterborough will launch..."operation vengeance" and go all out for promotion which they feel should have been in their reach if allowed to play the season out....not a Peterborough or Barry Fry fan personally.....just disappointed that it is Wycombe who will leap frog them....the team that regularly has to play 50/55 minute second halves to make up for their time wasting.

Tranmere who will get relegated under the proposed system....have come up with a different formula to avoid going down....but they stand no chance of influencing the proceedings on Tuesday.

So it looks like Promotion on Tuesday for Argyle and the club will then be in a stronger position to offer new contracts to players that they want to keep and also bring in.

The sooner we know we are up the better: I gather the players haven't been told who's going and who's being asked to stay as that is dependent partly on which division we are in. That can't be nice for anyone.

Simon Hallett was clear that nobody should expect extravagant contract offers as: nobody knows when fans will be allowed back and the club's income gets back to normal. You'd hope all clubs would take the same cautious approach but they won't will they? I suppose offers can be partly conditional: £X per week while fans are excluded rising to £X + Y% when fans return.

I wonder if some clubs won't survive as full time pro outfits.....and will we see a surplus of players....so having a club is the first priority for a player....not pushing for higher wages......but as you say notDistant...clubs will start in closed stadiums.....and later when fans come back negotiate a better wage structure when you know the size of your fan base....it is possible some fans won't return...having found other things to do other than football to spend their money on.....and of course some will probably not have a job or trying to recover from lower wages during lockdown.....there is plenty of free football on the box to watch.

Why is Lyle Taylor so different from any other player? He obviously has a deal waiting and he doesn't want to blow it or risk something going wrong with it. That isn't exactly hard to understand is it. I look at it this way with players, they want to go so let them. If we had offered a place to a player and he said no hang on I want to finish this season with xyz team first and then he got injured or something more terrible how would we feel. As for the team game well any of his team mats given the same chance would do exactly the same.

Lyle Taylor is under contract to Charlton and his contract finishes the end of June....not when he feels like not trying anymore with them facing relegation he is obliged to fulfill his contract to the club who paid his wages all season........no play....no wages....sack him......end of subject.

I agree sack him. That way he still doesn't play, doesn't get injured and still gets his lucrative move. Who still wins? ....or,,,, He could just have said "sorry boss I stubbed my toe and I'm injured" and nobody could disprove it. At least he was honest enough to tell then the truth. .....or...... they could make him play and he does it badly just for spite.

You saw Lyle Taylor being a complete twat in front of the Devonport End Sensible. What more do you need to know about him?
