Possibly a bit cheeky of me to ask this here - but the daughter of friend was a steward for BA - one of those sacked rather than furloughed when the airline closed temporarily. BA have offered all those who were sacked their jobs back - on reduced terms and conditions. As a protest, they have been asking anyone interested in helping them to click the thumbs down button BA's ad on their YouTube channel - and share if possible.

Just a small protest - and she promises that no Minnesota police officer will ride a horse over you if you help.

One of Mme's friends over here until recently was a steward with BA. There was a decision made about twelve months ago to reduce the staffing levels, and this lady was offered a new contract, but on terms that meant she would not be able to look after her two boys. She had little option but to leave, but of course that saved BA from making her redundant. The current crisis has helped them out on this level, but could create problems for many years ahead.

Morning all. Cloudy and much cooler with the threat of some rain and storms later. Yesterday on our visit to the supermarket the cafe as you enter was reopened, and a few people were sat outside on the terrace area having a snack. I did wonder how the inside would cope as the tables and chairs are fairly close together, They had simply got round it by putting labels on the tables that could be used, and those that couldn't. Normally around midday it is very popular with the two or three options for a main meal. Very much like school canteen food and service, but at a very affordable price. Not really my scene, but you can get a very good cup of coffee in there. Have a good day whatever you plan to do. <ok>

A sad, but probably expected, development in the Madeleine McCann disappearance - German police treating it now as a murder enquiry, with their suspect already in prison for offences against children.
I really can't imagine what her parents have gone through for the last 13 years - nor how they feel now with this news.

Hopefully those people that pointed the finger at Madeleine's parents will hang their heads in shame.

I don't find the parents free from blame at all.

They left a toddler on her own while they went off gallivanting and boozing!
How is that for grownups to behave?

Some people, including the original Portuguese senior detective, have insinuated the parents killed the child, not acceptable at all.

No, of course it's not, but neither is leaving her unattended for such a length of time <ok>

Agreed, leaving children unattended was tragically wrong but I expect many millions of parents have taken some risks which would not stand up to scrutiny later.

Hope you are feeling not so bad today Dave. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Can't say that I agree with that Dave. They may be guilty of negligence but can't be blamed for murder. From memory, they weren't gallivanting and boozing - they were out having a meal with friends on the final night (I think) of their holiday, and checked the kids in their room during that time. Something that parents the world over were in the habit of doing - most were lucky that nothing like this happened, a few were not. The Lindy Chamberlain case in Alice Springs comes to mind - it took that poor woman 32 years to clear her name after being wrongly found guilty of murder and spending time in prison.

You've misread Dave: guilty of negligence was what he was insinuating and I have to agree. The parents have never been afforded much sympathy, nor from myself included, but I can at least hold my head up and say that I've never accused them of murdering their child.

    Afternoon all :)

Timed trip to the tip this morning, followed by timed trip to the bread co-op which is now baking again, masked and gloved quick spin round the supermarket... and then back home to have socially isolating tea and cake with a friend who has been shielding up in the Dales.....

I was with a group of friends staying together in Llafranc on the Costa Brava many years ago.. One night the whole group were together having dinner in a beachside restaurant when our friends realised their son was missing. It was absolutely horrifying searching for him for what seemed ages, probably only about 20 minutes, thankfully he was found further up the beach. He had been playing with the other children but had just wandered off. It is difficult to know how closely his parents were monitoring him, only they know. I dare say most people, including the mum & dad themselves, would have blamed the parents.

Morning all. Grey and a steady but light drizzle here today. Enough to water my plants, but not enough to refill the water butts. Been to the bread machine and arrived early enough to still have a choice. It is stocked up at 9.00 am and if you are a bit late getting there all the popular loaves have gone. The bread is very good and people are coming from quite a few places to buy it. Most days the baker could probably sell twice as much as the machine holds. It is handy for me as I can get on my bike to go and collect, not when wet like this morning, but the nearest baker is 8 kms away up some very steep hills, and the bread is not as good. So fresh bread, brie and Branston pickle at midi. Have a good day whatever is on your menu. <ok>
