Be afraid, be very afraid. 'Endo's 'Ammer returns to the track, after 4 and a half months off, at Huntingdon on Sunday (2.00). The juvenile is in an all-aged novice hurdle and the 'Dazzler' has been booked (because he's retained by the owner).

For one reason or another he didn't excel at all on debut and this will be his second chance at the jumping game. Let's hope he gets his career back on track.

Sir Barney, good day to you. Before you scuttle-off for a well earned weekend's break, what is your opinion of Red Hammer's breeding relative to NH racing? By Falco (USA) out of a Della Francesca (USA) mare doesn't appeal to me too much to be honest? Have only a fraction of, for example, Bustino's knowledge of breeding, and have no statistics at hand as to Falco's success as a sire of NH horses in the UK and Ireland. Have to say, I'm not exactly wild about it at the moment!

Yep, I'd agree with you and remember there being huge questions posed after his debut as to whether or not Red Hammer actually stayed 2 miles. If some ailment came to light afterwards to explain the poor run or if it was a question of stamina I really don't know. Connections paid €105,000 for the horse, after he showed promise on the Flat in France, so I'm guessing if he doesn't show much, much improved form on Sunday they will revert to the level with him.

Don't know if this will work, SBC, but this website does show the Falco (USA) stud record for both flat and jumps. Hope this shows the NH part of his breeding successes:

    http://bloodstock.racingpost.com/stallionbook/stallion.sd?horse_id=686313&popup=1

Ah, this is 'Flat', so click-on down arrow for 'Jumps', then 'Filter', for sire's NH record!

Well, the old boy Falco has had his modest successes in NH racing, best being Mallorca and, wow, Peace And Co.

They certainly paid a lot of money for Red Hammer, that's for sure. I note that at present Falco's stud fee is only €2500 a crack. Surely must have been more than that at the time of his son's birth?

Since my last visit to this page this one’s profile has really improved and Red Hammer’s formline now reads a more than respectable -321. The 2nd was achieved in an all-aged affair whilst the long awaited for win was achieved in a handicap at Huntingdon - albeit against 2 opponents but the performance does have an air of respectability about it as the runner-up was Magic Dancer (peak rated 102 on the level and now a multiple runner-up over the sticks).

Red Hammer’s perch is now 115 and you would imagine that Mr Henderson will be more than satisfied with this as it undoubtedly still allows some ‘room for manoeuvre’. I await his bext racecourse appearance with interest.

To bring this thread up to date I regrettably report that Red Hammer has now left Seven Barrows after, earlier this month, being sold to the bloodstock agent, Shane Flavin, for £13,500. Apparently, it is thought highly likely that Red Hammer will move to the U.S. and continue his career there. It doesn’t take a mathematic genius to work out that Mssrs Munir and Soude experienced quite a loss on this one having originally purchased the old boy, a year ago, for €105,000. There were a couple of respectable performances along the way but ultimately Red Hammer, in 2 subsequent outings, didn’t build on his win at Huntingdon in March.

To use a footballing analogy though this ‘transfer’ is akin to a player moving from The Arsenal to Chippenham Town and it should now prove difficult for Red Hammer as let’s face it you can’t improve on the perfection of the forum’s favourite trainer, now can you?!?

I wish Red Hammer well though and let’s hope he’s one of those rare, rare, rare animals who manages to improve after leaving the care of those most magic of ‘magic hands’.

Don't know what happened here. I opened up on my phone and this thread was top of the list. So I put in a comment concerning SBC, posted it and then read that the previous post was about 4 years ago. How did that happen?

Anyway, where is SBC? We miss him.
