His club aren’t demanding anything. They’re at the mercy of his release clause. If a club wants him and pays it by the 15h June, then they are powerless to stop him leaving. It seems Chelsea are willing to pay and you’re not, which given the lads age and talent doesn’t look out of the way by current standards, far from it.

Unless Zanjinho spent lockdown growing balls, I wouldn't expect anything from him

under normal circumstances seems a very good deal. However we don’t know how the muxh the finances have impacted us this season and what no crowds for potentially all of next season could be.

I guess Chelsea are in slightly different boat having not spent money last summer plus theIt lower attendances might mean slightly less of an impact.

I think every club big or small has to look at the next couple years and judge if they can afford to spend that kind of money in the current climate and if we don’t do any huge business in the next year or so then can only assume it’s because FSG who have been top class owners, are looking after the long term future of the club.

Well since i was always ambivalent about Werner i'm not that fussed though surprised at Chelsea being in for him unless they are intending to play his as an out & out centre forward .

It's been reported several times that Liverpool have not been in touch with either the club or the player. The amount of the release clause has been known for a long time so it makes no sense that several months down the line there's some sort of stumbling block over not paying it.

It could be another Fekir situation where the deal was well done and then the agent was trying to negotiate for more money. The story put out was about a failed medical but you don't get to the photograph in kit stage before the medical has been passed. Klopp is particularly put off by players wanting to wring out more money. Young Bobby Duncan tried it on and he was shown the door. No doubt our version will come out soon because you can bet everyone will be clamouring to ask Klopp.

Apparently according to James Pearce, Werner himself set Liverpool a deadline to meet his release clause and after consulting FSG, Klopp rang him and told him no they weren't prepared to meet it. That seems to be the only contact between us and Werner. When contacted the club said the decision was not a financial one it would however have been a vast outlay for a player who would be starting his Liverpool career as a substitute.

Hey mate, long time no see <ok> You make a very good point about spending money in the current climate. We've barely got back to training let alone playing competitive games. All the talk of transfers seems a bit too soon and also out of place while we're still in a state of uncertainty. I get that some fans will be disappointed but personally, I want to concentrate on getting back to playing before even thinking about new players coming in, it's too soon. If at this point the transfer had gone ahead, does that jeopardise what we already have? Do our existing forwards get unsettled? Werner is a brilliant player but very much a luxury atm.

Pearce is more than suggesting that the reason you’ve not signed him is financial.

He’s gone further than suggesting, he’s spelt it out in that article.

FSG have obviously decided on pragmatism in the current climate, otherwise you’d be signing Werner, as it’s obvious Klopp wanted him, but it fell apart after he discussed it with your owners. It is what it is.

Chelsea spent more than us last summer. Infact despite a transfer ban, they managed to spend quite a lot

I just wasn't sure why you were saying 'more than suggested' as if I'd said it was suggested. I didn't.

The timing is far too soon for both parties. It's a shame for Werner because he had his heart set on us and a shame for us because he would have been an excellent option.

Don’t forget that they’re about to get virtually the equivalent amount for Morata when his loan move becomes permanent next month.

I never said you did, I was merely stating what Pearce has said.

It’s not about timing, it’s about cash. Simple as.

It is about timing as much as money. The release clause is up next week that's far too soon for us to be looking at spending.
