The turning leaves on Australia's only native winter deciduous tree, the fagus, herald the approach of autumn in Tasmania's Cradle Mountain National Park.

A Rainbow Eucalyptus tree - so-named for obvious reasons.

Yes - it grows in parts of the US, where it reaches heights of upto 125 feet. But it proliferates in the rain forests of Indoensia, New Guinea and the Philippines - grows twice as big there. The colours show up when old bark peels off in strips to reveal new bark underneath. I had my photo taken standing next to one years ago when I worked in New Guinea - the tallest tree I had ever seen.
