Sadly there is a whole tranche of them that are.... espousing certain values... but using the system to profit...

There are a number of senior MPs who wont want to be asked to evidence how they profited from this terrible CV saga...

It is not a question of whether I confuse tourism with short term employment but whether the border authorities can tell the difference at the point of entry. How do you deter the one without also making the other feel less welcome ?

My point is the UK is in a much better position being able to filter those looking to settle in the UK. This is a basic right enjoyed by most countries in the world. Membership of the EU took away this facility.

The same way every other country outside the EU manages. It is the norm around the world.

Given that this is a cv thread... one would hope they employ a better 'world beating' system than the shambles we have at present.....

I have no problem being assessed on suitability if I want to move to an EU host country after Brexit.

The vast bulk of people going to settle in the UK are not from the EU as figures show. As the coronavirus is slowly being controlled in many EU countries, the low skilled as some call them, will be able to return to the service industries that have been closed down. With the UK being so slow to implement anything when others could see the danger, it will be months yet before anyone will want to go there. Meanwhile the needs of the farmers are unfulfilled, and Gove was on TV at the weekend admitting that even without a loss of the UK crop, all fruit and vegetable prices would rise without the "vital deal" with the EU.

    Wrong.
UK farmers have already organised flights and flown previously employed temporary workers from countries in the EU. Any temporary price rises on fruit & vegetables will be offset by cheaper tariff free goods from outside the EU.

What tariff free goods are these?

    I’ll wait.

Goods currently supplied with an EU imposed tariff, these will be negotiated away in the numerous deals in the pipeline.

And still they say they are short of workers. Why would you wish to contradict Gove? I suggest he might just know a little bit more, though not a lot, than you. Seems that all of those oven ready deals are out of sell by date and in the bin.

Give some examples of both the products and the specific trade deals that you’re referring to, that’ll somehow offset the increases in food prices that would come with a no deal.

As you’ve obviously done some detailed calculations, as per your assertion.

    I’ll wait.

I'm sure there is still a shortage but you were clearly wrong in saying nobody would want to come from Europe to pick our stock, thousands have already done so.
Faced with dreadful unemployment levels in the EU they have no alternative.

Have you not listened to or read intentions by government cabinet ministers? You really should try to keep up.

You are ignoring the fact that Brussels is only 2 hours train journey from London. A person who goes on holiday for several weeks, or even months, may feel it is worthwhile getting a visa - eg. to travel to Australia - weekend tourists will not bother, and the majority of EU guests in London are short term ones. They make spontaneous decisions and pop over to London for a long weekend - pay ridiculous prices into London's economy and then go. They show their passport (or currently ID card) and go through without any mention of 'why they are there' - these are the majority of visitors to the UK. You cannot, legally, differentiate between a passport from Germany and one from Rumania - they are both EU. Make the one feel unwelcome and you will do the same for others.

The UK does not intend to treat any tourists differently, why would they?. I very much doubt the lure of the UK by foreign tourists, including from the EU, will be reduced in any way.

I can tell you that nobody will be going to the UK at the moment for seasonal agricultural work - this normally involves them all living together in close proximity, like as many as 20 to a room. Nobody is going to risk this on your infected island - this will only be possible when Corona is a thing of the past and the UK is further away from that point than any other EU member.

So you’ve got nothing but meaningless rhetoric then, thanks for confirming.
