I don't think we can blame anyone apart from the donkeys we have in charge of the Club.

At the start of the season Donald talked about a 100-point target and being so far ahead we could afford to take the cups seriously! FFS, we weren't even in a play-off place when the league was suspended. Cheers Stewy.

Do I detect some bitterness towards poor little Wycombe who, on a shoestring beat Rotherham away from home on 26th November to go joint top, spent all of December clear top and were clear top having played all other teams in the League. At the end of January we were still joint top even though we had lost key strikers and defenders due to injury. But for those injuries we would be in the automatic spot and like Coventry and Rotherham would have voted to curtail the season. Presumably you would not have been dissing Wycombe then as I note no-one is complaining about Coventry and Rotherham going up without playing another game

To be honest, I would have expected you to be in the auto spot and I'm sure you will be one day. With your rich owner there must be something wrong when you can't reach the play-offs in League 1. All you have to do is figure out what it is. You have had some very disappointing, and surprising, results this season. It is either the owner or the manager, or both. If the team aren't performing to its potential, the manager should be sorting out the players, with the backing of the owners. The morale of the players should be high on and off the pitch and if that were the case, you would be in an automatic spot

I hope it gets sorted and you get back into the Championship but it would be nice if little Wycombe got some credit for punching above their weight. I would guess that all our players are back from injury now so, with that in mind, my money would be that they would have ended up in the play-offs at least. Our owner voted to curtail because this virus will have cost us £2.5m we can't afford if we continued the whole season behind closed doors. If we were rich like you we would have voted to play on and aim for the auto spot

Thanks for reading, if you got this far

It seems this is the end of Sunderland Afc as we know it.

I will leave my season ticket on automatic renewal but cannot say how many matches I will attend (if they are not behind closed doors)

The Sunderland club and team that I have followed for nearly 60 years has ended with a whimper...not even playing out a full season, discarded by the EFL as not worth bothering about!

if we had a competent government, the league and everything else would have been shut down weeks earlier, before our form turned to ****.

So I blame Mr Cummings 'nGoings and Boris!

The main blame here for a few seasons has solely been the way the club is run and the effort of the players on the pitch. Neither have been good enough and that's been the case for a handful of seasons.

It isn't anything against Wycombe, it really makes no difference who the other teams are, Sunderland should have been doing well enough to be at least in the top 6. That's not too much to expect I think.

Good luck in the play-offs, the break will have evened the playing field quite a lot. Before the break Oxford looked amazing! Counts for nothing now though.

Interesting that the league is finished but the play-offs go ahead.....unsurprisingly as there'll be tv money up for grabs. As I've said b4 we've finished where we deserve to. Pleased that we're not contesting it as we don't seem to come out of any legals with credit.

Exactly, how much did we end up paying for Alvarez? Is the whole club even worth that much now.

This line up played a large number of games throughout the season and wasn't remotely like a z team tbh. The problem was that our form had completely disappeared weeks before we played Southend as we'd only won one, drawn three and lost two of the previous six matches at a time when we looked poised to go straight up. We were in poor form going into the Southend game.

The collapse at the end of the season, the worsening football and the shambles of a performance in the play of final despite being gifted a goal at the start being the main reasons why a lot of fans would have been happy to see Ross binned off that Summer.

    This.

If there are clubs that say they cannot afford to finish this season because they have to play behind closed doors whilst paying for testing, how on earth are they going to be able to afford to start next season behind closed doors.

I've just raised this in another post. If you can't afford to finish this season, I'm not sure how you'll be able to start next season tbh. There's a fair chance that a larger number of games will have to be played behind closed doors than what was remaining this season.

Re our rich owner, plenty have question marks against exactly how rich he is tbh.

You should never feel sorry for the Trannies, the bastards who, managed by John Aldridge, blatantly cheated their way to knocking us out of the F.A. Cup (quite) a few years ago :emoticon-0183-swear

Probably because it was a foregone conclusion as I suggested in starting the post , the four clubs in the play offs had received Covid testing kits even before the VOTE but I would be very interested in who paid for them , I would suggest it was the EFL and that being the case why did they not pay for all clubs to complete the season . Rick Parry said a lot of clubs are in financial meltdown , so what is he doing to help , the Goverment were keen to get football back to lift the country’s spirits or has he accepted that this only applies to the top two tiers - the EFL is his responsibility as one of the other posters stated we are all in this together or should be . Hard as it is if games are being played closed doors at the beginning of next season are those clubs going to be in a position to start the season ? Has anyone seen who supplied the testing kits ? Questions need to be asked !!!

    1. I agree entirely that the EFL (or Government, or someone) should have offered to subsidise the teams in order to finish the season properly. I know that, in that scenario, Wycombe would have definitely voted to play on. We wanted to but it wasn't financially viable
    2. If we had played out the season I am confident we would have reached the play-offs at least. I say that because we have been in that position for most of the season, and top for a good part, having played every team and despite being without key strikers and defenders. With a fully fit squad, we would have got back onto a winning streak
    3. Would we be able to afford to start the new season behind closed doors in the Championship? Probably not (regardless of what league we are in) and I doubt we would be the only club in that situation. Let's hope that doesn't materialise. Personally I don't think we are ready for the Championship just yet. However, I think we earned our place in the play-offs. Our team have achieved more than we dreamed of and that is down to a good owner, great manager and a fully committed squad. I presume/hope we will get something for TV coverage of the play-offs. Don't know if we would get anything for promotion. Anything helps

As to who goes up. After such a long time with no training, anything could happen and the wrong team could go up. It is very unlikely to be us. We will be without one key defender for sure because he had to go back to his parent club. It would be great though if we could get to the final

    See you next season
