To be fair I thought that Flanagan looked much better when part of back-three, but awful as a two. I remember the last time that we offered fresh terms to three players just before their contracts expired: Bardsley, Larsson and Colback. My God, how much would I love those three playing for Sunderland now.
He will get a chance elsewhere I'm sure of it, and that club could well cash in big time, he could do a John Egan imo.
Many will probably laugh at the idea of an open letter but I think it's fair enough. The owners have always said if we want to know FPP's intentions we should ask them. They have no obligation to answer, but you'd like to think they could speak, there's no need for secrecy and it is causing a hell of a lot of confusion and adding to the issues at the club. If they were to come out and say they want it but can't yet agree a price, you'd see the Donald out stuff increase ten fold from our support, we might be inclined not to renew season cards etc. If they say they want to buy us but only if we're in a higher league you might instead see more renewing and less infighting as we try to ensure we can get the club up so these owners can go. If they say they've got no interest then at least we can move on from that, work out the next steps from the fans point of view and it might even encourage other buyers to come forward who might currently think FPP would be an obstacle in their way. I agree that it's about time they commented rather than just leaving a lot of confusion as the club seems to fall to pieces. Many will say they won't read it, but I'm 100% sure they will. They have been keeping a much closer eye on things at Sunderland than most realise (whether that is because of any purchasing interest or simply because they have a sum of money tied up in the business through the loan I couldn't say though). They'll read it. I hope their wives read it as well. And let's hope they eventually decide to give us a clue one way or the other. There's no need for it to be kept a secret, much though they're entitled to do so if they want.
I just copied the link to post on here. I know that it’s probably wishful thinking, but it’s fantastic words I have to say and what most fans are probably thinking. It’s the hope that most fans are clinging on to, but at the most difficult time in the clubs history I would say that it is time to find out what their intentions are. If they don’t go all in for a takeover this summer, I question if they ever will. I know that they would probably prefer Donald to default and get the club for £10m, but it’s a club on its knees right now and coming in now would give the fans a boost, and buy so many brownie points with the fans that they could do no wrong. We need to hear from them soon is my opinion.
100% this, I can see the pressure is mounting from all corners / supporters groups / local and national media now on the running and ownership of SAFC. Questions needs answered even if they tell us what we dont want to hear and move on
I hope he does mate. Good, honest lad, who has been incredibly unlucky with injuries combined with the demise of this club. Good luck to him. Surprised that Robson was on the list, yet Scowen will be re-signing. Neither have been given much game time by Parky, so I got the impression he didn't rate either of them.
Big fan of the open letter and GG's post. The current situation serves nobody including FPP. There has been an awful lot of making excuses for FPP along the lines of 'they're astute businessmen trying to get what they want for the price they want', but the price coming down is most likely a consequence of us being in a worse position as a club. I can't excuse anyone keeping the club in a state of flux who isn't on the hook for what happens after. They can still walk away if we go bust. They can't be forced to take us over even if Donald defaults. As it stands, their only loss is the money they've loaned, which is a drop in the ocean for them. They may choose not to throw good money after bad, and where would that leave us? I think the FPP situation has been a contributing factor to the situation with Donald and the fans, so for the good of the club, we need more clarity on what could happen, and what their overall intentions were and are.
