Good point. If everybody redoes their A2 year, there’s like 90% fewer people heading to university. There’ll still be those that took gap years or further education later in life nut the majority of new students will be non-existent.

And if the college kids still went to university with the results they’re predicted, it’d mean colleges would lose lots of money with Year 11s not moving on (unless Y6 moved you and repeated Y6 at their high schools which would be the only way keep numbers they same across the four-five settings.

    There’s implications across the board.

Admittedly you could argue that there’s advantages too insofar as the otherwise school leavers who wouldn’t have gone to Uni, again faced with horrendous economic conditions and the likely lack of apprenticeships, junior jobs etc, wouldn’t go straight onto the dole queue either.

There’s a huge cost either way I guess but it could be that it’s more palatable politically to keep them in education somehow.

Universities are a massive business and have to keep the years turning over. They are currently completing this year as best they can with lots of adapted home modules but must take in a whole new year of freshers on awarded A levels in Autumn. Foreign students provide a massive income for them but how do they certify their lockdown entry grades?
The whole education system will be struggling until the September 2021 year starts.

Could be a major opportunity for the Open University , already successful track record of doing distance teaching / learning, much cheaper £3-5 k , kids can also do this over a number of years & e.g. whilst working part time earning some money if jobs available
