This came up on my Facebook page. The film is 2 years old but shows an American cop killing an unarmed man. Chilling.
You'll be happy to note that the police officer is no longer on the force...because he's collecting a generous lifetime pension for the PTSD he suffered executing (and being tried for executing) an unarmed man.
Ironic that the police choose to stop and search a black man, shortly after he had given an interview to Channel 4 about police racism. The Facebook video recording the stop, in which the police smashed the driver’s window, has been blocked from copying. A man with no criminal record but who has been stopped 20 times by the police. Coincidence?
Because they "smelled marijuana". I am not familiar with the search and seizure laws in the UK, but that's a favourite tactic in North America because it gets around the protections against summary search: smell/plain sight allow for an officer to have probable cause for a search where it otherwise would not exist, so police have a remarkable capacity to smell marijuana where it does not exist if they happen to want to toss someone's car. Strangely, smelling marijuana where no marijuana is found is not hazardous to their continued employment.
Smelling marijuana is an even greater trick if you can smell it when you are following behind in a car.
Not only is the government now blaming the care workers for the covid deaths in care homes, the Leave Alliance is blaming Remainers for what looks like being a bad Brexit.
Utter bollocks! They’ve “suddenly” realised that it’s going to be a total goat-****, so they’re blaming the people who’ve been trying to tell them for 4 years what is blindingly obvious to anyone with half a brain cell and saying it wasn’t “Project Fear” but a concerted effort by “Remoaners” to scupper the whole thing (I wish). Well, **** ‘em, I say. Let them explain to all those who voted for it when it goes tits up .... but, of course, it’ll be Brussels’ fault plus those who voted Remain. You couldn’t make it up ....
This article must be turned into a documentary type investigation, Channel 4 maybe, to uncover the reason for so many multi million pound contracts, for manufacturing PPE, being given to inappropriate companies. When an HR company, in Eastleigh, receives a £23 million contract, I think it’s fair to ask if money is being given to buddies who are then sub contracting the work, whilst creaming off a massive lump from the top. Corruption springs to mind. A logistics company, not a manufacturer, received 4 contracts worth £186 million, in just a few days. A pest control company gets a £20+ million contract. https://yorkshirebylines.co.uk/the-truth-about-the-billion-pound-ppe-procurement-fiasco/
I agree that blaming Remainers for the debacle is tosh, but wouldn't it be lovely if it were true? Personally I'm more than happy to own it. If the basic principle had been sound it would have taken far more than that to bring about failure.
@Schad following post on other thread... it’s the UK version that must have added the defunding and disruption to their aims then. That’s a part that made me lose some empathy for them. the original US cause is much needed and you’d hope that something will change. Do you think it will?
Hard to say. It has enough will behind it that it's likely that some progress will be made, but there are so many entrenched interests that it's hard to say how much. The police are, effectively, a big business in the US. The unions are major political donors with serious clout, and in a lot of places the fines/tickets handed out by the police are a major (sometimes primary) source of government funding. It's part of the reason why starting from scratch might simply be easier: as a person who has attempted many DIY projects that got absurdly out of hand, there is a point at which your birdhouse is eight feet tall, weighs 250 lbs and leans at a 45 degree angle and yet still has no room for birds, and another nail or two simply isn't going to cut it. But this has certainly hit home in a fashion that previous protests did not. Mentioned earlier in the thread, but I think that part of that owes to the fact that the police reaction to protests has been so over-the-top, and the people getting beaten and pepper-sprayed and having their eyes blown up with rubber bullets have often been white. And sometimes older, too; it's really hard to make Grandpa Jack out to be an Antifa radical (though some have tried!). It shouldn't, but for a lot of people, that's the moment where it goes from "well, the police are dealing with problems" to "okay, maybe the police are, at the very least, a big part of the problem".
Yep. The Tory media will be in no doubt who to blame when the fallout from Brexit becomes toxic; those devious foreigners who have been planning Britain’s downfall since DeGaulle first said “non”.
Raab taking a tough line with these dastardly foreigners. Saying to China " Come on if you think you are big enough ." - They are. He will most likely turn to his mates in the EU and find that they are busy eating a roll mop or dancing the flamenco, understandable really I suppose.
