The right decision was made and far quicker than I'd expected so fair play, although quite how he got the job in the first place will always remain a mystery to me. Houghton has form at this level with Newcastle and Brighton. If the Lansdowns are serious about wanting Premiership football then they need to tempt a Manager here that has proven experience in getting teams out of the Championship in the upwards direction, and there aren't too many of those around. They also need to be prepared to pay the going rate, as having Championship Promotion on your CV will rightly come at a price. I can't see that bringing in a Gareth Ainsworth or a Ryan Lowe is the answer. What is Rafa Benetiz up to these days ?
Spot on Angelic. Funny how some on here now carp at Robins and Lowe's credentials. Have they already forgotten the 'chosen ones' CV when he joined 4 years ago. Probably the worst appointment and who squandered zillions ever.
The difference is that 4 years ago we were a struggling Championship side and now we are established one thanks to The Chosen One. However whereas I would not want Robins or Lowe if they were to be appointed I would back them to the hilt. Its a shame that so called supporters could not do that with the previous manager
To be fair RP, most of us on here were underwhelmed at LJs appointment at first (myself included). I can't remember ANYONE being excited about it. However, we were prepared to give him a go (after all, it wasn't OUR appointment, it was SLs - and we had been wrong about pre-judging Cotts before), and for a while (after getting over the record-breaking losing run - when I was calling for him to be sacked along with many), things seemed to recover and were going well - we were playing some really entertaining and successful attacking football and I personally began to believe that maybe we really had unearthed a gem. Going into 2018 we were in the semi-final of the Caribou Cup - going toe-to-toe with the best team in the world at that time (Man C) and giving them more of a game than most of their premiership opponents, after dispatching Man United in one of the most exciting and entertaining games I have EVER seen at Ashton Gate, Added to that were second in the table and looking strong for a promotion push. But then, everything began to slide - It seemed to be the Wolves game at Ashton Gate for me where it all started to go wrong. It wasn't so much the wheels FELL off - more like they began to squeak, wobble and vibrate - and slowly got stiffer and stiffer over the following seasons until finally the axle broke last Saturday. Yes we won games (we are still relatively high in the league after all), but we never had the 'spark'. The writing was on the wall for a while but until the restart of the season I still hoped that with Afobe back we could regain that confidence and rekindle the spirit that we had back then (2017/18). Sadly it was not to be and it was the right thing for him to go. I too will be sceptical if we employ someone from the lower leagues unproven at this level. After all, if SL is willing to throw £millions at a new stadium and players, then it seems bizarre that he wouldn't want to pay a comparatively small amount to land a decent, proven manager - but then I'm assuming that money is the only obstacle - as I've said before, SL runs a very tight ship and not all managers would be prepared to conform to SLs strict setup and structure. We shall see.
5 places in 4 years and zillions spent. Progress ??? 'Strict set up' ??? Umpteen zillions !!! Should he ever get a job again he'll soon understand strict set up.
The club will never satisfy everybody, there are some on here talking about Hughton's brand of football, really? after what we have endured every January to April for the last 3 years?, give me a break.
Can't argue with any of your logic or previous misgivings and as I've said before many times over, I had no axe to grind as to whose Son LJ was, or his time as a player at City or elsewhere. I just never took to him as a person or as our Manager, and that's a first for me and I've found it to be quite unsettling over the past few years. But as I've said elsewhere, Lansdown needs to decide whether he will settle for Bristol City being a comfortable but unexciting Championship team, or whether he really has the appetite for a shot at the Premiership and all that it brings in terms of vast sums of money, countered by players being paid stupid money, not having any affiliation with the club or city, although we lost that years ago, and all the unsavoury things that can accompany it. This next appointment is a big call.
Already on here the "the vitriol" is beginning to flow ...TIC.... people have their favourites [ I don't, not my job to pick, just been a supporter since 1951 and in any case like 99.99999% on here not qualified to do so.]
I think it is a massive call …. and I wonder if SL is in a situation like Boris … with a Cummings! I do wonder if SL is fully behind it, some of the comments of a year or so ago were it would take time! The other thing is how much did Lee have on his contract left ...he took a hit of 3 months? which is now up!?
You do realise, Phil Brown, Paul Jewel and Ian Holloway also have experience in getting teams promoted from the Championship. Would you like them to be approached?
STRANGE OLD WORLD didn't get a lot of it but 5 live were chatting about Barnsley and "their model" last night just got back from a walk how they are set up to /and concentrate on youth development etc ...wish I had heard all of it
I was going to cough up the £50 quid for the last 5 games and just now as having my afternoon cuppa I thought of principals … taught me from a very early age.... like 4 or 5 when I used to read the paper to my grandfather who was blind. I have always thought it wrong when a club has sacked a manager when the tough going has a very big opposite lying ahead … like now City 5 pretty easy games .. has happened loads of times and there is more to just coincidence to it. Basically all runs come to end [ usually fixtures get easier or key players that have been out return and gel etc ] ..it actually gives a false impression the board has "done the right thing" opportunism... lack of patience. .OK I KNOW City HAVE been on a bad run but there was a lot of mitigating circumstances and I feel the board was wrong DEVIATED FROM THE PLAN … to this end I shall complete the compo's not pay my £50 and rather than spend time chasing the result live … BBC TEXT OR RADIO ..go out and enjoy myself …
Yes but he got us to a decent level in the championship for a few years.....why try and start all over......Robins failed and Lowe is inexperienced......if we are going down that road, might as well bring LJ back!!
So you want more of the same then?.......According to some Brighton fans, it was dire..........................buy hey, he could get us up...maybe get rid straight after
Do you know I'm just really looking forward to a new broom in a new broom cupboard, LJ has gone, so out with the old, there will be a new visionary at the helm, I can't wait.
I am not someone who believes everything that a FEW fans from other clubs say, had that been the case LJ would never have been given our job and the same with some players that we sign, I actually make my own mind up from going to every home game and watching every away game live. But hey I am sure you are right more of the same, my more of the same would be some of the lower league managers being mentioned, we've been there and done that and when things start to go wrong the players suddenly realise that the manager never achieved much as a player and even less so far as a manager. I repeat part of Johnson's problem was that he cannot handle big players.
