Bookies suspended betting on Steve Bruce taking over on the 9th July, therefore he probably held talks a week or 2 before. He officially joined on the 17th. He was more than likely asked what transfers he wanted as that's standard protocol. So he didn't only have 6 days to say yes or no to Joelinton. The only deal he had no say in was Ayoze being sold, which was part of the reason Rafa left, as he wanted to keep him and sign Rondon permanently.

So all in all, Steve Bruce did spend 70million. Which is quite a considerable more than what Rafa had to spend and everyone knew that would be the case as Ashley was trying to prove a point over not giving Rafa any money to spend.

70 million spend on a solid midtable side, with one of the best defences in the league, with young prospects already blooded in such as Sean Longstaff, with Woodman and Sterry getting game time too.

Who's decision was it to loan out Ki, Sterry and Woodman rather than utilising them this season.

 

This is all conjecture.

Ki wasn't loaned out, he was told to think about his future and walked. He was also ****e.

 

That's certainly one argument, though I think it's a very naive one. Bruce was applying for his dream managerial job as a boyhood fan of the club. He may well have been asked 'what transfer targets do you want?' I think it's far more likely the conversation went along the lines of 'this is what you would be getting, do you want the job?'
