Don't disagree with a lot of what you say really. Think he has a point about community opened clubs though and I feel that should be the norm in the lower leagues. Does part of you regret the fans selling up?
I think a fair number of our fans regret selling up because the Eisner's aren't throwing huge amounts of money at the club and they've been very loyal to Kenny Jackett who a lot of fans have turned against (me personally, I'm reluctant to call for any manager to be sacked but he has been with the club 3 years and we haven't won a play-off game, some of the football is pretty dire and he also froze out Brett Pittman who was probably my favourite player of recent times so it's hard not to join the band wagon). Still, standing by a manager surely isn't the worst crime in the world. There's some who believe the Eisner's don't want promotion because they don't want to put any money in the club but I disagree with that because income would go up vastly in the Championship (yes so would wages especially at the top end but we could yo-yo between the divisions and we'd still gain financially, like how the likes of Norwich yo-yo between the PL and Championship), the club would be worth a lot more if they were to ever be sold so I don't think it would be in their interests to stay in League 1. Also if they did just want to siphon money from the club, aside from the fact I can't imagine you can siphon that much in League One, there's plenty of better clubs to buy who have bigger stadia and get higher attendances us. Plus, the Eisner's are billionaires, not sure they really need to siphon money from a League One club in the first place. Personally, I still support the Eisner's. They always said that they were going to build slowly and not rush things or go crazy throwing money about. They have put money into the moneypit that is Fratton Park. The losses of players like Lowe and Clarke are more to do with them wanting to play at a higher level and so they would have left anyway, plus it would be stupid to break the bank for anyone. Their only fault possibly could be sticking with Kenny Jackett perhaps longer than they should have. And if we were still owned by the PST in these times, we'd probably be screwed.
Jack Charlton: England World Cup winner and ex-Republic of Ireland boss dies aged 85 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53373542 RIP Jack
Only “liked” the post because I respected and admired the man. I’ll never forget watching the 66 final on my Nan’s telly in Birmingham with all my cousins. Massive family party afterwards ..... RIP Big Jack. Thanks for the memories Condolences to Bobby and all the Charlton family
that makes me so envious, to have been alive then must have been fantastic. I thought 1990 and 1996 were my time. Then two years ago today, the bastards teased me again. I had my route planned (2 options - 1 flying via Helsinki and one driving to Moscow) but alas not to be. I don’t think I’ll experience it in my lifetime.
I wonder if we’ll ever do it again? We got so close, but I’m unsure we’ll ever get to a final again - certainly not in my lifetime. We never seem to have that killer punch ...... but <dreaming> wouldn’t it be good next year if in the final the commentator goes “Ward-Prowse with a beautiful ball through to Ings, he’s in space, round the keeper and scores!”. That’s the cup for England!
The delaying of a year could be good for us. Gives another years experience to the likes of Foden and Greenwood etc. We still believe...
It was amazing. I was 12 and football-mad. The Saints had just been promoted to Division One and every World Cup game was on TV! When Hurst’s second went in off the bar my whole family jumped in the air screaming. The poor cat never got over it! RIP Jack Charlton, England and Ireland legend
Jackie Charlton a man alongside his brother who I will never forget.....R.I.P Jackie God bless you. Condolences to Bobby and family...........
I was due to play cricket for Southampton junior schools, on the day of the World Cup final, but I was mysteriously injured and couldn’t go. It would be great to do it again, so that some of you “kids” could enjoy it! I think he wanted to kick Terry Paine over the stand, and had him down as one of three players in his black book. RIP Jackie
Sad news...In Ireland he felt like everyone's third grandfather and that that he would be around forever. No exaggeration to say he had a big hand in changing and shaping our country from the 90s and beyond. RIP
I met Jack Charlton briefly at the Aberdeen FC annual dinner a few years ago. He was having a smoke outside with Neil Ruddock - they were both speakers for the evening - Jack clearly wasn`t well sadly. RIP.
Yet another superb win from Brentford. Neither WBA nor Leeds can afford a slip up as the Bees have a superior goal difference. If they achieve promotion, they start their PL experience in a new stadium. So this is a must for those SFC fans seeking out new grounds to visit if and when fans are allowed back. I would love to know how much they have spent assembling their squad.
When taking off 12 points from Wigan, the bottom 8 currently reads 47, 47, 46, 46, 45, 44, 43, 42 Stoke, on 46, the only side with a game in hand. The next 15 mins could be vital.
