Drum - if you think you have been done over then pm me mate - I do employment law so happy to give you a view as to whether you have a claim or not...
Thank you for the comments everyone and thank you for this offer. The procedure seemed fair enough. I'd be lying if I said I didnt see it coming but lived in hope. I've just asked them to check the redundancy figure offered. I think I'm entitled to 1.5 x weekly wage for every year over 41 which I dont think they've taken into account. Awaiting a response.
After 26 years at Sunderland Uni I have decided to take advantage of a voluntary redundancy scheme and now on three months notice.. It will mean a significant loss of income, but I believe I can get by fine with the works pension. Hopefully get a stress free part time job in the near future to keep me occupied.
Good luck with that mate, nowt worse than being in a stressful job. Something like delivering parcels a few hours a week to keep the wolf from the door, you’ll be a lot happier!
To be honest it is the massive changes that have moved my job from away from customer satisfaction and care to one that is measured by getting my staff and role more paper qualifications that has got ne wanting to leave. I broke the news to the team that I lead on Friday and they were all gutted, but wished me all the best. Leaving these will be the hardest part..
One of my uncles took redundancy from office job, and he’s doing 20hours a week delivering for Tesco, he’s happy as a pig in **** and stress free. Good luck with whatever you end up doing RAW.
I have only been a manager there for the past 9 years or so, and did love it for most of the time. i suppose at my age I don't like change..
I'm in an isolated village in SW France watching eagles, learning to play the mandolin and feeding lizards that come round the pool. We go up to the village and have a laugh with the local hillbillies, buy stuff at the farmers market and drink wine with our feet in the river. It's because I'm a coward who can't cope with reality. So I live in a self created bubble where I don't have to be responsible like normal people ... ... I admire, and envy, people like you mate.
Best of luck for the future RAW, I hope you find a cushy little number if you want to continue working. I retired in 2014 and although I miss the camaraderie, I don't miss the job one little bit.
Goes without saying you're always welcome wherever we are mate, don't even need to ask. We've just been asked if we'd like to head up the security team at Althorpe House, for the Spencer family .... ... sod that, can't abide that class of people, job's yours if you want it.
Feel so much for those worried about their jobs at the minute. It’s an awful time and I fear we are no where near the tip of the iceberg yet
I agree Janey, there's going to be a lot of angst before this lot clears up, people need to be careful with any money that might have stashed away. I'm convinced listening to the GP s where I work these this virus will be back in the coming winter and those acting like tits and not keeping they're social distancing are not helping.
Sorry to hear that pal, there's big redundancies to hit our place. It's been a shìt year for a lot of people and could get shìtter.
In the same boat as the OP. Been furloughed since April and getting notice 31st July to finish end of October. Been in IT support for nearly 20 years and i've had enough of it. Been working on other stuff for the last couple of months and not far off my normal wage now so another 3 months and i shouldnt need a "proper" job anymore. If push comes to shove i can do something part time - Feeling pretty positive about not having to go back - no more nightshifts for a start!
