Have we lost 8 league games on the run or is that including the 1-1 FA Cup extra time kick in the balls ?

Systems and tactics play a part in everything but if you change your system you have to have the players to work it. There is no point in swapping to a diamond system, for example, unless you have a Grant Holt up front. It took DF half of last season to come up with a system of play that suited the players at his disposal especially the youngsters he brought through and that system got us promoted. As the squad wasn't changed - a correct decision in my view following past experience - he had to stick with the system and had little room to tinker. Quite bluntly we were a Championship squad struggling to survive in the best league in the world and there was only ever be one outcome. Should have been more defensive? Look at the goals on Saturday. On all 4 we had more defenders than attackers but Godfrey, in particular, did not do his job leading to a heavy defeat. Nothing wrong with the tactics - defenders not doing their job. How many goals have been conceded by poor passes in front of the defence? Again we lost out to individual mistakes not system failures. We have created chances but haven't taken them - again player failure not system errors. Errors you get away with in the Championship are punished in the Premiership as we have found out at our cost. Need a rich owner - ask Coventry, Bolton, Portsmouth, Ipswich, Newcastle under Ashley etc whether that always works. Lets see what happens next season and for now be grateful that one year in the Premiership has prevented a big financial crisis for the Club

I like Farke he comes across as a genuinely nice guy (unlike Webber) and what he achieved last season was a minor miracle given what he had to work with.

However when we were relegated under Worthington the Board stuck by him and then subsequently had to sack him the next season, when we were relegated under Alex Neil ditto, there's a pattern forming here.

There is a saying that everything happens in 'threes', let's hope this isn't going to be third time unlucky :emoticon-0101-sadsm

I had been something of a Farke skeptic until he came up with our little miracle last season. The football was fantastic as was the season, after a very ropey start that had me believing he wasn't up to it, he found a winning formula. He was rightly lauded for this. But was the little miracle a flash in the pan?
This season was always going to be tough and relegation was probable. But the manner of it is sticking in the craw a little.
This is not just meek surrender due to being underfunded and unlucky with injuries (Though they played a big part), it is a failure to adapt, a failure in the basics, it's the worst failure we as city fans have ever seen, when measured in the only way that is truly important, points on the table.
One important thing here is was his judgement flawed? Did he think the squad that went up had enough? did he think the additions would help enough? Or was he let down by Webber who for me failed horribly to improve the squad? What successes has Webber had this season in the transfer market? Byram (good for a spell, but a known injury risk) any others? Rupp or Duda or Drmic, hahahahaha

I'm sure during; Hughton's, Neil's and Worthington's relegation seasons there were games that we should or could have picked up a point or 3 that we missed out on due to individual errors, profligate finishing or dumb luck that perhaps a performance deserved, but shoulda woulda coulda is as false argument for Farke as it is for others. His system failed with the players at his disposal and it failed more horribly than any before. (If anything I would argue that Lambert did it with a worse squad and as if not more limited resources) Farke has not had a good season in my book., what he has learnt as an inexperienced head coachis the key.

    So, should we sack him?

Not a simple question, has he lost the players? Some of the body language as well as the pisspoor performances since the restart make me wonder. Has he got enough credit in the bank to be given another shot at the championship, for me just about. Clearly he has masterminded a promotion season on limited resourses here before so he has to be worth sticking with. But what if the current malias continues? The turn around is short and the confidence gone. How long do we give him? This time around he will have a squad built for him and the agreed tactics, enviable resourses. The short turn around is the same for everyone, many clubs will be coming off; managerial changes and disappointments themselves.
So I think he needs to hit the ground running because any players who are coveted but stick around, will look to go in January if the PL looks unlikely at that point.

Hi everyone, been a while. RIP Dave

    Bah!

While I believe he should stay with us, if he fails to address our defensive woes adequately I cannot see him lasting until the January window. How three of our back four are rated so highly is a total mystery to me. If they are so good, then the system they employ, and the training and coaching, is demonstrably not fit for purpose. Too many defensive injury in training would give credence to this supposition

I'm with you on that point GE. Godfrey in these recent games has looked more sunday league than 20m+ PL auction stuff. Body language has been terrible. I think that in general they have all looked at best Championship quality played in a system that all to often leaves them exposed. The shoulda/woulda coulda of it is, had any pair of them been able to play together for the whole season, maybe they would have looked and performed better. Bloomin hard to have a good pairing to build on when they're all getting injured all the time.

    Bah!

How well defenders (or attackers) "do their job" depends on what "job" the system employed imposes on them and the context in which it is being employed. Yes, players make mistakes but, with all respect, conceding close on 2 goals a game over the entire season cannot plausibly be put down to individual aberrations. I'd actually go further and suggest that many "howlers", such as Krul's against Arsenal, are as much the result of the system as stupidity on the part of the player(s) concerned.

Antonio's second (?) was atrocious - Overstrand under 7's girls team could have done a better job.
Neither Godfrey or Klose moved or jumped, the free kick was accurately aimed at Antonio and he just had to find the angle to guide it wide of Krul - not too demanding if no pressure is exerted to stop him. Shockingly poor.

Many a true word spoken in jest. But seriously who would we replace him with? Im in favour of giving him another season with the bar set at play offs level.
