I can’t see it. It has to be. The ban basically stops Bein from making any legal money from SA even though they own the rights to broadcast. Illegal streaming is stopped but so is legal streaming. Different situations but same outcome for bein sports. Bein will surely this address this loss of potential earnings by either legally challenging SA or go after PL for compensation or.......... Accept a pay off from the PL due to limited scope of broadcasting under the deal. Then SA are free to negotiate their own deal?
It sounds like it is exactly this. Ban BEin and negotiate their own TV deal. Kills the piracy argument stone dead.
It does and any legal challenge from Bein is effectively also scuppered with SA because of the very reason why they are banning them. Clever bastards. Does give the PL another headache though but can’t see what Bein can complain about if the PL refund their rights.
Justifiable reasons to ban BEin and no comeback. Their lawyers earning spurs. Leaves the PL to freely negotiate wirh the Saudis and no comeback on the PL either.
I think the big thing to remember is that we are a small part of a much larger geopolitical context. Seems like the piracy and sponsorship issues are satisfied and the BEin sports legal move is part of a wider engagement with the PL
How this is in any way good for Newcastle? Saudi Arabia is disrespecting a legal Premier League rights holder while trying to buy a Premier League club. There is now no legal way to watch the Premier League in Saudi Arabia. Piracy is 100% guaranteed. This is like burning down all the McDonald's in your city and then telling Ronald it's no problem because you'll sell his burgers for him if he wants to do a new deal with you.
