Farke has confirmed Duda's returned to Hertha Berlin.

There was a little talk of the club trying to sign him for next season, you'd think that puts paid to that rumour?

Yes but that response has no bearing on whether it is or is not true that Villa have shown more “spirit”, so if that’s what you were responding to you appear to be changing the discussion.

Not necessarily indicative. Leitner went back to his club and then signed on permanently after the summer break. Duda could have returned to his club at the end of June, but he chose to stay on to help in the fight for survival.

I apologise profusely. In my ignorance and stupidity, I thought that pointing out that Villa were actually
had some slight bearing on the question of whether they were showing more "spirit" than us.

Grealish looked like he’d been on the spirits yesterday when he spectacularly “fell over”

    Sigh.

Which is why you've obviously completely missed (and continue to miss) my point.

    NCFC Numbers

    @ncfcnumbers

That's Norwich City officially bottom then.
In 28 years of the Premier League, no team had been promoted in 1st, 2nd and through the play-offs
& also been relegated in 18th, 19th and 20th places.
#ncfc have completed the set in the space of 11 seasons.

I think his main gripe is we made no discernible effort to stay in the division for more than one season - one glance at the table will testify to that.
So, we basically spent £750k on Byram, circa £1.5 m making Emi's deal permanent, then gallop off into the sunset £40m better off over the next two years. A pretty decent return if you put your cynical head on.
But hey, we didn't make the rules, we just chose to exploit them.
I'd rather see them (parachute payments) abolished and that money channeled through to divisions 1 and 2, but we won't go over that old chestnut again. <ok>

Can we only do that when it is not so beneficial to us as a yoyo club.

    Bah!

Not often I disagree with you Cromer but I just cannot see any basis for your suggestion over parachute payments. All the Broadcasters negotiate direct with the Premier League for the rights to broadcast Premier League games and with the EFL for the rights to show EFL games. They pay more for the Premier League games because more people want to watch them but the money paid is purely for the benefit of the Premier League and that paid to the EFL is purely for the EFL Clubs. The money is distributed by the Premier League in accordance with position in the league and the number of appearances on the TV and the parachute payments are designed to protect relegated Premier League Clubs against the financial hit of relegation. Whatever is any of that to do with Div 1 or 2 Clubs? Surely they are the responsibility of the EFL? It cannot really be argued that nowadays they provide players for the Premier League as most players now come from abroad, or through the Club Academies of Premier League Clubs and the few that do come through from the lower leagues earn those Clubs transfer fees.

There has been all sorts of mutterings about the struggle lower league clubs have surviving
with no media revenue and perilously small gates - Bury springs to mind of late.
Whatever happened to 'supporting the game at grass roots level' or whatever the old cliche was?
When a Chelsea or Arsenal player can earn roughly the same in a week as it would take a small club to survive for half a season, something is radically wrong with the game per se.
And parachute payments merely serve to reward failure - you don't get any form of medal at the Olympics for coming last.
I just think it would be fairer and for the greater good of the game in general if that £40m x 3 relegated clubs was divied up across the board more fairly.

Parachute payments are not there to reward failure - they are there as a reward for their contribution to the Premier League and to cushion them against the financial problems caused by relegation. Without them many Clubs would go bust and I'm sure you wouldn't want that. Surely the plight of any lower league Club is the responsibility of the EFL and the responsibility for the grass roots lies with the FA - none of this is the responsibility of the PL and the PL Clubs already support the FA by participation in the FA Cup where the FA get a percentage of gate receipts. Bury took a gamble by spending money they didn't have to try and get success on the pitch and went bust when the owner wouldn't cover the debt out of his own pocket. Surely if the PL had bailed them out it would have encouraged others to try the same thing. Every Club at every level has to live within their means although the means of big Clubs make it easier to do
