Really pleased we put in a shift last night. Could have been very easy to roll over. WBA looked understandably nervous, and I fear for them next season if they don't recruit well.

I saw Bilic have some words with Eze, wonder what that could be about? As for his goal.....just sensational. He's every bit a £20m player, who knows what we'll get for him, but not a bad way to sign off on Sky, by far and away the best player on the pitch.

We can analyse where we lost the 12 very valuable points to the play-off zone.

We needed to convert 4 defeats into victories (plus goal difference). The first two games after the restart account for 6 points.

Nice end to the season. I just wonder whether the squad finishing last night will bear any resemblance to our squad next season. Looks like the new season will start in early September

If the new season starts in September, when will it finish as there should be the re-scheduled Euro tournament?

Good point. There's going to be a concertina of domestic matches. I imagine across Europe

As shownby last night. I do not think we losy points to Barnsley after the restart. They came back winners...well done them

We lost points Barnsley earlier in the season when they tore us apart. Hull at home, Reading away, Charlton at home (with that stupid throw in where the spectator threw the ball away and the ref gives them extra minutes) and Charlton after the restart

Yes if we were more consistent we would have been there.
The defence just needed to go from being nearly the worst to just mediocre and we would have been in the playoffs...daft isn't it

The thing that jumps out at me here is how few draws we had compared to the teams above us. We weren't that far behind in the number of wins. As Beth said, even an average defence would have seen us push far up the table. If we do get Kieffer Moore in we then really need to prioritise a decent CB. Replacing Eze has to come behind a CB as we can hope Chair fills his shoes, at least partially.

Should we start an end of season review thread as we're bordering on that now?

We have replacements (not as good, but neither was BOS and Eze this time last year) for both....Shodipo and Chair.

We have a full back replacement for Manning (Wallace) who is better defensively, but will never get to Mannings level going forward.

We need to replace Amos with something better, yes I know he is not ours!

We need a much better defence (a CD, a RB at least), two forwards (a big CF, and a nippy no10)... and soome sort of decision on the GK ..

.we have 3 first team GK....Kelly, Lumley and Dieng...who has had rave reviews out on loan.

A lot to do but we have a bit of money to do it with, which many other teams will not.

There will also be a few players out of work due to expired contracts who may be willing to accept a slightly lower salary than they would before Covid...

The 2nd half substitutions last night gave us a glimpse of next season....

I wasn’t watching for a few seconds and suddenly we had some competition winner up front.

Shodipo and Chair have the potential to going some way to replacing Eze & Bright so we can prioritise other areas. Not as sure about Wallace having the fitness nor the ability to fill in for Manning who I’m less sure will go anyway.

Hope so but doubt it. There are two 'types' we need to negotiate with. The average football player with an IQ of 50 who will always expect a pay rise or at least the same terms even though he is now playing for Stockport County as opposed to Manchester United. The other is of course their dear agents. Some are better than others as they may be willing to negotiate the player's terms but not their cut That is sacrosanct. I honestly believe that neither group will have factored in the effect of the pandemic on clubs coffers.

They'll soon learn when they don't get the offer they were expecting and will have to settle for what they get. Doesn't matter if they've factored in the pandemic, they can't create the offer the expect from thin air.

Tad harsh about the Danish lad......was signed for the development squad having been injured for a while.....no way is he ready for 1st team yet but in a year or so maybe....

Is Gubbins a full back? Also have the American/Finnish lad for the left back position if need be....

Although Eze showed us what we'll be missing by scoring the last goal of the season and probably THE goal of the season to boot I think there is a silver lining. This really must have secured his value to the wider football world and I think we can expect a bidding war to ensue. Bilic was clearly setting the scene for a WBA bid last night, Leeds are showing interest according to reports and there is no doubt that Spurs and Palace are keeping tabs. I know the market will be depressed but I would be very disappointed if he went for less than £20m plus sell-on clauses.

And we really need that money: there is no way we can go into another season without two new reliable centre backs. As demonstrated again last night, virtually every corner and set-piece in our half produces a scare and we surely can't go into another campaign with that level of risk and uncertainty.

Obviously we will also need more composure in midfield and more firepower up front. Unless Huggill can buy a right foot rather than an ice-cream scoop in the close season we should not be asking him back and the same definitely goes for Amos who, despite having one of his better games last night still showed no signs of being able to play the ball to feet or any inkling that the ball sometimes needs to go towards the opposition goal.

Did you see his pathetic attempt at a tackle that led to their second goal. At least Kakay (?) turned and chased after their winger when he got away from them, Amos just threw his arms up in the air and gave up - do not want to see him back next season.

I don’t think there have been any viable loans we would/could keep at the club from this season.
I did notice Amos’ reaction last night to being pushed through, for the second Baggies goal, by shrugging his shoulders and waving his hands around petulantly (at least Kakay did turn and chase the player).
Great point about the keepers Beth - feels like we have a decision to make about Dieng for next season, which ultimately means making choices with Kelly/Lumley.
That defence needs a lot of work. No doubt at all they have cost us a considerable number of points this season. Has been our achilles heel for a few seasons now.

I don't know why but I really think Barbet could come good, despite him not covering himself in glory this year. I think alongside a commanding and more physical centre half he could be a lot better. So we could maybe get away with one really good CB with Masterson/Cameron/Kakay as cover. Unless we carry on with three at the back when we do need two. Who that newCnew is, I have no idea...

Palace and West Ham would seem to be the leaders in the race to sign him, he'd certainly be a regular first choice at either and staying in London would be ideal for him. It'll be interesting to see who does make a firm offer first, after last night £20 million should be the starting point...
