Cottagers join Leeds and Baggies in the Premier League

Scott Parker's Fulham will be playing Premier League next season alongside Leeds and West Brom after they defeated Brentford at Wembley last night in the Championship final.

Although it would be fair to say that Fulham were the better team, the two sides could not be separated until extra time. The unlikely hero came in the shape of Joe Bryan's speculative 40 yard free kick caught David Raya out of position.

The Bees deadly strike force of Benrahma, Mbeumo and Watkins (collectively known as BMW) ran out of gas.

Whilst Thomas Franks men were pressing forward for an equaliser, Bryan doubled his tally for the evening. Norgaard grabbed a consolation in the last minute of injury time.

Host of PL clubs hover over Griffin Park, ready to swoop for bargains

It's fair to say on paper, that Brentford should have beaten Fulham, but I suppose that's part of the beautiful game. It will be nigh-on-impossible for Thomas Frank to keep his strike force of Benrahma, Mbeumo and Watkins intact.

More than a dozen top flight clubs are believed to be interested in the services of at last one of their deadly strike force who recorded 57 goals between them last term.

It is believed that Leeds were waiting for the conclusion of last nights game before they dipped their toes in the transfer market. Both Benrahma and Watkins are believed to be at the top of Bielsa's wish list, but with so much competition, it is bound to drive the price up!

No love lost between Leeds and Brentford

Many Leeds fans took to social media last night as Brentford crashed and burned at the final hurdle. Thomas Frank continually throughout the season insinuated that Leeds are weak-minded and even claiming that the Whites ‘fear‘ Brentford.

Also, according to Phil Hay, one unnamed (believed to be Brentford) player, asked him how Leeds were coping after they lost to Cardiff as the beginning of the restart.

There is also the Jansson factor. Brentford went out of their way to try and rub Leeds' noses in the dirt having captured the Swede for a fraction of his worth. This is one of the tweets they sent, minutes after Jansson signed for them:-

A keeper can kill you at any time and this one had a great season and was top of the clean sheet table but then one mistake last night and boooom.

Brentford have zero chance of keeping that squad together. It’s wait and see who makes a move for their players now.

We won the league convincingly in the end, that effectively gave us two weeks head start on planning for the upcoming season. You would like to think during the three month Covid break plans were already being put into place and a shopping list put together.

We know Bielsa likes to watch a ton of footage on targets, the covid break has hopefully meant everything is set to make some swift signings and that we actually have Plan B and even Plan C in case anyone plays hardball.

Championship Play-off final ?

It would be fair to say it gives us a good opportunity to sign a couple of players.

Pontus must be asking himself "is it me?"

 

Brentford lost 4 of their last 5 games. Not as good as they were made out to be.

 

Rich Phil Hay said a few weeks ago that during lockdown Bielsa and Orta compiled a list of positions that needed players. There was then a list of names per position starting with the ideal player but out of our price range down to the name of cheap under the radar players. So 5 or 6 names per position and it was then down to Orta to do his best with the names given to him

 

Good to hear, let’s hope we can make some swift moves and get the new boys in before preseason starts

 

Didn’t watch the game, no interest in either team, why should I, we were promoted two weeks ago, looking forward to see who is coming in? who is going out and mix it with the so called big boys.

 

Didn’t watch it myself but took an interest in the result in case we are genuinely after one of the Brentford attackers

 

Dean Smith wants to take Watkins to Villa, I wonder what Watkins thinks of Smith compared to Franks having worked under both. Also the fact Villa we’re fighting at the bottom end of the table and look set to lose Grealish

You didn't miss much. It was a terrible game but then most play off finals are. The first goal was surreal. No one was expecting a shot and with no crowd cheering I assumed it had just hit the side netting.

Now that's settled I hope we start seeing some transfer activity. Even if we lose out on the Brentford players we'll be able to start looking elsewhere.

Brentford were their own worst enemies in regards to their arrogant comments about teams being frightened of them and them chasing us down.
You are just writing the other coaches team talk for them and leaving yourself old to ridicule when you mess it up as Brentford have done.

I think we need to me in for Watkins ASAP. Gonna be a lot of clubs hovering around that Brentford squad

Well its Fulham and now we must get some bodies inbut we have according to reports only 43m to spendso its looks likely that freebies and loanees will enter the fray
White we will have to draw the line Senseni seems to tick the boxes and is a much cheaper option
Eze would suit our play and can be bought for !5m the Celtis striker or Watkins at 17m which leaves us with about £8mfor a left back a goalkeeper and another striker so loanees and freebies appear to be the answer
