Just a thought: 10th August 2019 we beat Aston Villa 3-1 in the first game of 'last' season.

Always nice to see a woman with a superb pair of ... "binoculars"
(which she obviously has - in order to be able to see all those "joggers"
from where she is standing) .

A great result for Stevenage this evening, reprieved from relegation after Macclesfields continuing misdemeanours finally caught up with them.

Well pleased for Stevenage, they have been great friends of Spurs over many years. Hopefully they can build from this because more managers than wins in a season is not good.

Just came across this magazine from Nov 2009 - 11 years on the same 2 players still fight to be regarded as the best in the world, that's incredible, but does anyone think that its all a bit disappointing that no one has really emerged to challenge them.

Just out of interest there were 2 Spurs players in the list Luca Modric at 61 and Wilson Palacios at 93! Cant have been a vintage year Marouane Chamakh made the list at 81!

There is a media focus on them. I'm not sure Ronaldo is still at that level. Still a great player, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure that he's quite at the level of top 3 anymore. Haven't seen much of Messi recently, not sure whether he is still at the same level.

Xavi was third in this list - I have just checked again and Chris Brunt was inexplicably missed!

    Yes and No for me.

It's always good seeing something/ someone new at the top and I'd say there's certainly been players who've pushed them over the years (Neymar, Iniesta, Xavi, Modric - who is the only player that's managed to break that balon d'or stronghold - plus a few others) but at the same time I just feel pretty honoured to have been alive in the Messi-Ronaldo era. I've also been fortunate to have seen both play live. For me, they're the two greatest that have ever lived, they've seemingly broken every possible record in football, it's just crazy. They made braces and hatricks look like a common feat, so much so to the point where other elite players wouldn't get the credit they deserve simply because they weren't matching those two.

What I also like is the complete difference between them, Messi has a god given gift that simply can't be taught. He's made football look far too easy over the years and the best defenders look ridiculously amateur. Whereas Ronaldo, despite being extremely talented, is more down to a phenomenal level of hard work and commitment, I think every player he's played with has said he's first on and last off the training pitch, even at his current age.

Funny how these left footed players will go around you and score or fall over and get a penalty. Messi top of that list!
