My Nan and Grandad right up until the day they died used the term ‘coloured’, no malice was ever meant by it, they were just brought up using that terminology in a completely different era. I’m ‘only’ 30 yet when I was in primary school it was quite common to use the term “half caste” whereas today it’s regarded as offensive and instead we say mixed race. Again, never any malice intended back then, it was just the vocabulary at the time.
OK I am not against the respect you are showing, it's good, but I think tolerance should be a two way street. I am old but up to date with modern standards because I mix with young people and I have a daughter who will correct me if I use old fashioned terminology but not every body lives in the present day.
I have just dug out the DVD and will be watching again later - they don't do comedy like this anymore.
We do like a nice thorough week long medical at Spurs, how soon does anyone actually expect an official announcement Friday?
I'm not 30. I will be 80 on the 6th November. ....so I want you buggers at your local pub to celebrate this historical wonder.ME!
Yes of course using those terms back then were common We aren’t in those times now though, it’s 2020 so no excuse to still be using outdated terms (goes for sexual as well as racial terms). If I see anyone using it then I will 100% call them out on it like ANY decent person should instead of making weak excuses.
Milik Watch ...bet you forgot about him too, eh? The Gazzetta dello Sport report that Napoli are willing to lower the asking price for Arkadiusz Milik to a figure around £27m, which is a 25% discount compared to the price bandied about three months ago Exodus Watch Football BSider report that Luka Amos is currently having a medical with QPR, which leads us to... Eze Watch Alisdair Gold has suggested that we're looking at Eberechi Eze, although stopped short of saying if there was anything more to it
You’re not being decent though, you’re being petty. An older poster - and we’ve all known Smithy’s an older poster - who grew up with different terminology may not know they’re even being offensive so of course there’s an excuse for him. Had I or one of the other ‘younger’ posters said it, different story. You know full well Smithy said it innocently without any intent to offend. If you wanted to be productive then maybe you should’ve PM’d him, told him how that word isn’t used in today’s society and that would’ve been a good deed of yours done for the day, Smithy maybe then could’ve edited his post if he knows how or asked a mod. Help educate him instead of condemn or “call him out”.
Back in the day those using the term "coloured" were generally the anti racists. The US civil rights organisation set up by black activists was called NAACP ... The National Association for Advancement of Coloured People. Of course language has changed and racists can't get away with using the N word or P word so they learned to hide by using coloured when the movements and younger generation moved on to using Black. As someone who has always been involved in anti racist campaigns from being a teen in the 1980s I think it is rough to critise those who were anti racist when it was far harder than it is today because they use what was s progressive term out of habit. Many were beaten, lost jobs, were disowned by friends and families etc. Like many I havd experienced racism by the old bill employers, colleagues, families of girlfriends etc. I would rather save my anger for actual racists and racist institutions. As for @Dier Hard s good post...it is what you are and what you do that counts. I was s homophobic arsehole until I was 13 or 14 when a youth worker said "yeah, you call me queer and I'll call you a paki and we can just hate eachother for no reason"... never used homophobic language since and have supported campaigns for equality ever since. Sorry for a looonnnnggggggg Post!
Petty how? I saw someone use unacceptable language so questioned it. My original comment wasn’t meant in an angry way but obviously context can get lost in word and probably did on this occasion. I wasn’t angry about it just more amazed people still use that language in 2020. What has annoyed me is the way I’ve been made out to be the bad guy because I called him out for it. How do I know anything about his age or what era he’s from? Tbh I don’t know much about individual posters on here even though I’ve been here since the beginning, I just know we’re all Spurs fans and that the common factor. And I’m not here to patronise people by treating them like kids when they say silly things.
It’s been a slow day so I’m happy to report that SCITK reckon we want to offload Lamela. If true (big ‘if’) then it makes rumours of a new winger more believable. Jose is clearly a fan but maybe at this stage the club believe his injury record is a liability.
I don't think it would've been patronising to have just politely DM'd or even replied saying where they went wrong. I think at the least it would've been better than condemning someone for what was very much likely an innocent and oblivious mistake due to a different generational upbringing.
Well ****, I haven't checked SCITK in a while. Who's been to see Hotspur Way and is Damiao still having his medical?
I mostly don’t post their stuff here or pay it much attention because, well, it’s SCITK But I’m a sucker for transfer gossip so there we go.
