That explains why he appeared to have not run for two months – the Deutsches Derby not in the form! Just watched the video of the Hamburg race and a blanket could have covered the first half dozen. It looked like a sprint handicap at York in the home straight.
Unlucky with Eagle Creek, Nass ... luckily for me I had Cry Havoc ..... I'll post my betslip as soon as I've driven into town to collect
The Mudlark Pretty Gorgeous turned over on decent ground, forget about the classics for her if she needs a bog.
That Cork race now starting to look good: Cayenne Pepper wins at The Curragh and Tarnawa collects the Prix Vermeille. I expect that Tarnawa will be back in three weeks but she does not have a realistic chance off level weights against Enable. Once again, like last season, the juvenile fillies appear to be taking it in turn: Shale reversing the Debutante form with Pretty Gorgeous in the Moyglare.
Chappers slaughtering Ghayyaith there, pretty much called him the Apples Jade of the flat without saying it Kevin Blake trying to justify Armory and Sottsass finishing right on their tails yesterday, Magical and Ghayyath didnt go anywhere close to too fast.
Shane Foleys had an absolute nightmare there on Lucky Vega. Master Of The Seas well exposed, his form was G3 level at best, doesnt bode well for Battleground either. Had a saver on the winner at 12s thankfully but I think Lucky Vega woulda have won. Chindit and Cadillac must surely be heading the market after that.
The cat well and truly among the pigeons with the two year old colts now... Lucky Vega a complete no-show, Master Of The Seas had every chance and led with a furlong to go. Thunder Moon escapes from a pocket and mows him down to win going away.
un-Lucky Vega - barged all over the place by the winner. Fair performance by Thunder Moon on only his 2nd run, not sure what can be taken from that re next year's classics.
Aiden Obrien will be along soon to tell us the Curragh is the fairest track in the world, if its not a conveyor belt massive front runner bias its carnage in behind in every G1
Well done. Obviously Frankie is losing his sense of speed. No way could he have won at that pace. Even so Straddy gave all and nearly made it. Frankie also screwed up on English King, moving off the rail to let Mogul through then running up the arse of something and having to snatch up. May not have won anyway but he certainly made sure of it. Much as I rate Frankie, I would be tempted to get Tom back on asap
Thunder Moon has a turn of foot as he showed on debut and it got him out of trouble but the runner up is rated 92 and the 3rd was beaten 4.5L by Lucky Vega in the Pheonix. He doesnt look to have much scope to me either, precocious type I think and I have suspected for a while that no matter what happened today, the race would be heavily overrated, Lucky Vega was never a Guineas horse but I fancied him today.
Good shout with Search for a Song, STH, and a reminder that if a horse is being aimed at a specific race, its previous form can pretty much be ignored. One of the RTV pundits rather dismissed her on the grounds that she's 'had an in and out season', but the facts are that after she lost her legs and was pulled up at Cork, the obviously inadequate trip in the Tattersalls (at 50-1) was completely irrelevant except as a pipe-opener. This always looked as if it was the plan. And a word for Oisin Orr, who's had a sometimes frustrating year; he resisted the temptation to look for the gap up the inside and took his horse to the place where she was most likely to be able to build up a sustained run. He's a better jockey than he's often given credit for.
Thanks Rainer, pretty much the thought process I went through in backing her today. Nice drift to 7/1 as well. Oisín Orr is very decent I've always felt, he wouldn't be mucking around for Dermot Weld too long if he didn't know his onions. On the other hand, Shane Foley seemed to give Lucky Vega a tough passage where he situated the horse early on, I have not saw a replay but on first viewing I felt he rode for luck in a bit of a barging match. Not to say he would have won either way. Cayenne Pepper was brilliant looking, typically winning well the day I don't back her, but I won't hold any ill will there, these things come and go. Well done anyone finding the winners.
WD with the Leger winner STH, was waiting on Fujaira Prince for a double, thought Atzeni and Moore were doing way too much all the way round as if they didnt realise it a was 1m6 race, hes not a jockey thats ever done me a turn and riding to beat Moore isnt a great tactic these days, they set it up for a closer.
