SCOOP THE POT 16/1 Hexham 3:40
I put this one up the last day and the money came only for it to be a late withdrawal. No matter, its a bigger price today. The horse has had five runs for Ben Haslam since leaving Pip Hobbs and in that time has gone from 131 right down to 112. Off his current mark he could carry these and win but he has quite obviously become a little sour. No better man than Haslam for sweetening him up and the market will tell us all we need to know. I wouldnt expect an evening punt from JP, he likes to have the phone call on the morning before committing his Euro but he should shorten significantly toward race time if indeed he is fancied at all. Richie McLernon is in the saddle for the first time and whilst that is a hardly a surprise these days it is most definitely a plus.

    BUSHYPARK 16/1 Hexham 2;10
I think the jolly is well worth opposing in this and Bushypark looks the type to appreciate handicap company and a step up in trip.

    Hexham

    2.40 Mrsgrey

Was fancied on her last run before the break when unseated rider (beaten when it happened). Could improve this season. Stable sent one runner to Hexham over last 5 seasons and this was a winner. Lee Edwards seldom rides at this track (1 ride over the last 5 seasons) and Mrsgrey is his only ride today.

Should back this as I lived (in my 'teens) less than 500 metres from the Sandy Lane entrance to Bushy Park. During WW2 this part of Bushy Park was covered in a giant camouflaged 'roof' (to avoid detection from the air, of course) and housed the headquarters of SHAEF, under General Eisenhower, from 1942/44. Eisenhower and Co. planned D-Day from here. It was apparently called Camp Griffiss which most locals did not know at the time, I certainly was unaware of that name. We had Yanks all over the place where I lived; sometimes they caused a lot of problems with local people. It was some time after the war ended that they finally demobilised the place and pulled it all down. and putting this part of Bushy Park back to normal (around 1960.) As youngsters, we used to watch the Yank soldiers who built the structure play Baseball in their time off (we used to call it Rounders!) Yep, better have a bit on this hoss!

P.S. Will have a bit on Achill Road Boy too, now back over hurdles!

    8.10 Broughtons Compass 40/1 e/w

Trainer jockey combo had a winner at Lingfield at 18/1 yesterday. Broughton Compass whilst still a maiden hasn't run too badly at Kempton compared to other all weather tracks. Its also entered to run on the 17th and 18th, Chelmsford and Kempton again respectively. Could mean its ready to strike, and at those odds I'm willing to have a little interest. It is the 'lucky last' after all.

Bitterly disappointing after there had been a bit of a move. Looked like he simply downed tools.

Pre race drift said it all. This horse will prove better than that and will land a touch when they send him over 3m.

In the bumper at Hexham (17:50) maybe the Haslam/McLernon duo will have better luck with Spider Pig. Just on breeding - Sire Yeats out of a Presenting mare has been a happy choice for me a short while ago. 15/2 with Bet365 best price at the moment.

A representative from Hexham racecourse said this about the delay to racing:

"There will be a delay to racing for at least 20 minutes as the horses needed so much water in early races and the pressure has dropped off so we need it to fill up.

"It will take another 20 minutes to have enough to cool all horses down. Cooling off operations have worked really well so far and we just need to make sure we have enough water for the 15 runners in the next race. We've sent horses back to stables to be in the shade."

Bloody 3rd of 7, just like the dreaded 4th! Think SP will win a few races for sure, maybe a bumper before it goes hurdling?

Haslam was talking pre race. Apparently he is more of a staying type and will likely make a chaser. Owned by a couple of Burnley FC footballers. Typical that it came third.

It was swell, to see the Lieutenant excel (random rhyme alert) at Hexham this afternoon. I’m sure everyone is excited at the prospect of the great man warming up his regiment ready for the business part of term 2020/21. He’s our Champion, people, and we salute him.

Meanwhile, I see that William Hill‘s share price soared by 11% today. No jokes please, at this point, about a glut of members and their moles / contacts / insiders (delete as appropriate) rushing to open accounts earlier on. In all seriousness, crew, that’s quite a hike for the bookmaking giant.
