What are you guys first impression of De Gea? i think he has been decent but i think you could have had better for less money. Stekelenburg for 6mill would have seemed a better choice in my opinion.

Agree with Stekelenburg. He is 27 years old, £10m cheaper, is the number 1 for Holland replacing van der Sar (if it's good enough for Holland it should be good enough for us) and has more experience and is much more assured.

De Gea will be great I think but he will need a while to reach the top. Right now putting a 20 year old lad in net for the biggest club in England and one of the biggest in the world is too much for him I think.

Ferguson knows what he's doing though.

Stekelenburg would have been the safe choice imo. More reliable, ready to hit the ground running and pretty solid. But never likely to be one of the top two or three keepers in the world. He'd have made us more likely to win the PL over the next few years and probably help us do better in Europe.

De Gea is going to need more time to develop and grow. He'll make more mistakes in the short run, maybe cost us a few points and a few games, but in the long run he has the potential to be one of the top goalkeepers in the world. He may fail, but then he may succeed on a massive scale, particularly if Jones and Smalling stay with Utd as a CB partnership. Which is what Utd will need if we are to be successful in Europe in the future with Barca being so good and Real and City throwing so much money around.

To me, Steklenburg was the safer option for now, but De Gea is the more promising option for the future, particularly if he builds a good partnership with the CBs.

I think also there is always the massive possibility that if De Gea comes good and becomes one of the best in the world, and becoming Spain's number 1, that Real Madrid or Barcelona will come calling. It will be difficult for him to say no to them.

<doh> Guffaw, such rapier wit from Ze Liverbird! Please try and show a little decorum, and don't attempt to answer questions not posed to you.

    Thank you. <ok>

I dunno - I think as an Atletico fan it would be very difficult for him to go to Real. Barca maybe, but then they there's no guarantee they will come calling for him - Valdes will probably keep going for another six or seven years at least and Barca are likely to look to their academy after that.

And we could potentially face the same problem with any goalkeeper we sign - Real in particular hardly restrict their player poaching to just Spanish players.

Absolutely, there was even talk of a player who tried to sue the whole of Britain for telling the truth about shagging his brothers wife? Whatever next!

Normally I would argue that an immigrant caught breaking the law (petty or not) should be deported after the first offence, but not in this case because ManU would have to sign a new keeper and it would improve their team in a big way!!!

I don't know? Maybe after urinating and vomiting in a bar full of American's on Sept 11, a certain player would go on to have sex with a 17 year old autograph hunter in his car. Classy man. Leader, Legend, Captain of Engerland.

Nah I don't know either mate, apparently there was another beacon of society and ex- England captain who tried unsuccessfully to gag a 15 year affair with interior designer Carly Storey. Nice to see the lad wasn't going short while his bitch was dropping his sprogs. <ok>

Must have learnt from the leader, legend then eh? Still cheating on his wife TWICE while she dropped his sprogs and pissing on and vomiting on crying American tourists tops all of that.

    Inspiration.
