The best meal at Christmas is brunch on Boxing Day with the bubble and squeak made with the the sprouts left over form Christmas lunch. The very lovely Mrs Godders always cooks plenty of sprouts just so there is a plentiful supply for Boxing day
You lot have inspired me to have a roast during the week - nice Garlic & Rosemary fluffy roast potatoes, medium beef joint, roasted glazed carrots, lightly steamed broccoli and roasted brussels with bacon, garlic and pine nuts. The best part of winter.
May be relatively rare, but have seen quite a few reported in my life. And remember there have even been two-headed humans as well. More of an oddity (snakes, that is),
I sympathise Godders - like football, enjoying a sociable drink is one element of what makes life worthwhile. I`ve always thought that having money in my pocket, and having the freedom to walk into a pub if I see fit and put my money on the counter, is a privilege I`ve earned - and a privilege I`m grateful to have from living in a free country. My son arrives home today from 3 months at sea - we shall share a drink tonight. Next week we travel to Southampton, and we shall share a drink with my best friend. I love those moments.
The trouble is that when you are having a chat with your mates in the pub what do you drink or do you stop going to the pub altogether? What I also ask myself often is whether another couple of years of life is worth the misery of not being able to drink another glass of malt whisky? The really annoying thing is that I actually feel better for having stopped so I don't have an excuse to start again.
Tough decisions Godders, my Dad has chosen to ignore some of the advice/instructions given to him and that he is going to continue with some of the things he has always enjoyed. He feels that putting an extra couple of years on the end of whatever maybe his end number, is neither here nor there. It’s difficult to argue against him really. Maybe one difference from him to you is that you still have the lovely Mrs Godders to consider, whereas Mum passed 10 years ago (next month).
Just added dentistry, to my short list of skills. I lost a filling on Sunday, phoned the dental practice to see what they could offer, by way of an appointment, but they are still operating under a triage system. You tell the receptionist the problem and the dentist then calls you back, to discuss how severe the situation is. I haven’t been in pain, but was concerned that the tooth might break, as the cavity was quite a large and is a molar. The response was, “buy a temporary dental filling from a pharmacy and fill it yourself”. Job done, just need to decide how much to charge myself, as it wasn’t done on the NHS.
