Call me a traditionalist, but I've never been able to stomach the Champions League. The false title of the competition and naked greed was enough. It'll never happen, but I vote for a return to the old formats of European, UEFA and Cup Winners cups. One substitute only. Defenders should be allowed to wear knuckle dusters. Then a return to a 22 team First and Second Division. Third and Fourth should be - brilliantly, cunningly, named after the tier they represent. Oh, and Darlington and Gateshead should be readmitted.
Literally the response of 90% of fans of other clubs up and down the country. Everyone has had their fill of this biased debacle that is the PL. People want competitive football back, governed with a bit of decency/honesty. I'd be over the moon to see them all do one and take Masters/PL with them. We can go back to having football as it should be.
The idea of having a play off final at the end of the season is ****ing JUICY. Imagine the cries on Merseyside. They win the super league by a record 100pts, celebrations all around... then it goes to the play offs... they lose on penno's in the first round and the top of the league are knocked out. This is gonna be a ****ing farce, it will never happen.
I hate these two American owners. It's a threat to get their own way isn't it.. Give us control of your clubs or we'll take away your TV money. Call their bluff I hope... Say right ok **** off
Its a complete bluff. It will kill the game, everyone knows it. I haven't met anyone who's so far agreed to this and thought "ye, sounds fun" The same 16 teams... forever? Really? How many times do Spurs wanna finish bottom before they're sick of it?
If football belonged to the fans it wouldn't happen but you only need to look at money-spinning moves in other sports to see how it plays out. American sports have worked on a play off basis at the end of the season for a long time and even cricket (IPL) and rugby union have them now so if you think football is immune then 'd argue that's naive / hopeful. Fans will hate it for a few years and then within 5-10 years it'll just be how it is and the dissenting voices will be the minority. In a generation people will question whether the end of the season wasn't a "bit flat" without the Euro-Super-Soccer-Ball-Final-Extravaganza.
I'm just becoming so ****ing sick of Newcastle, the Premier League and this entire ****ing farce honestly. If they want out, go. Leave us be. I'll support a local Chesire or Wirral side I think.
Didn't realise you were round these parts, last couple of matches I've been to were at Tranmere. They're a poor team so it's similar to NUFC but without the commute
So it's just a way of guaranteeing their champions league spots for 20 years and ensuring the competition for that extra cash is removed rather than removing themselves from the premier league. The absolute bastards... So they'll stsy in the premier league insisting they still get the lions share and remove the opportunity for other clubs to get the European riches completely. We wouldn't be getting rid of them at all it would just be a completely fruitless opportunity for the other clubs to even bother investing. No more takeovers and no more competition for them... Not round those parts now mate, but was round those parts for 22 years! Since I was a wee babe, being drug out of Arrowe Park Hospital Been to Tranmere a few times too, quality must be even worse than it was when i went years ago.
Its nice Oxton. Further you get from Birko and Wallasey the nicer it gets Got mighy drunk in Heswall a few times, where we for some reason all pronounced "always" as "oways"
UEFA v FIFA Clubs like Snideypool have no shame, it's all about the Moneyball. How long before the Yankee Scum push for Franchise Clubs.
Then they can have proper US sports style team names, like the Liverpool Robbers and The Manchester Smackheads.
