    Coventry City v Swansea City

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
Venue - St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium
    Date - 20 October 2020
    Kick off - 19.45

Following their disappointing 1-2 home reverse against Huddersfield, Steve Cooper’s squad have an early opportunity to get the show back on the road with a trip to promoted Coventry.

On Saturday, Huddersfield ended the Swans’ unbeaten start to the Championship season as Josh Koroma's first Terriers goal secured a 2-1 win at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea were the better side in the first half yet found themselves trailing when Harry Toffolo struck from a well-worked corner.

Andre Ayew equalised with a penalty after Korey Smith was fouled, but it was Huddersfield who found a winner in a more even second half.

Koroma guided the ball home from the edge of the area to give Carlos Corberan's improving team a first away win of the campaign and seven points from their last three games.

For Swansea, this was a first defeat in eight regular-season outings stretching back to 11 July, and they will feel they should have got something.

On the same day, Ivan Toney's second-half double helped Brentford record a comfortable home win over Coventry City.

The former Peterborough striker put the Bees ahead in the first minute of the second half, diverting Bryan Mbeumo's cross-cum-shot past Marko Marosi from just inside the six-yard box.

Toney then doubled the lead nine minutes later when he headed in Emiliano Marcondes' cross from the left at the back post.

The Bees had largely dominated the first half, with Marosi twice denying Toney and keeping out a close-range effort from Pontus Jansson.

Matty Godden came closest to pulling a goal back for the Sky Blues, sending a volley onto the underside of the crossbar which bounced down onto the line and having three more efforts saved by David Raya.

The result means that Coventry have recorded just the one solitary victory since their return to the second tier.

Including their first meeting in April 1915, the Swans have played Coventry on 30 occasions, winning 9, losing 13 and drawing 8.

The 2 sides last met in the League - in fact, in the Championship - during Swansea’s promotion winning campaign in 2010/11 when the Swans did the double, with the away match won courtesy of a Stephen Dobbie winner in the 76th minute - just 4 minutes after he came on to replace
    Darren Pratley.

Turning to Tuesday evening, I’m backing the Swans to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat, and return home to South Wales with all 3 points with a 2-1 win <cheers>

    Thanks Taff.

We have to go there with a real positive outlook. Hopefully we will have some of the new boys in the side. It's a 2-0 win for the Swans with Vik to get his stick out and get his 1st goal

If that’s correct, then the 7 away midweek games ‘offered’ by the Club as part of its live matches to Season Ticket holders is ‘worthless’ to those who have Sky Sports.... ...

Yep. So that means any midweek Swans game will be back on the red button as it should.

    Per the Swans’ website:

Swansea City and Coventry City will meet for the first time in just shy of a decade when they lock horns in tonight’s Championship clash at St Andrew’s.

The last time the Swans and Sky Blues faced each other in a first-team fixture was February 2011, with a Stephen Dobbie goal settling matters at the Ricoh Arena.

Steve Cooper and the current flock of Swans would surely accept a similar outcome tonight with the visitors back to winning ways following defeat to Huddersfield.

Coventry have had a challenging start to the new campaign, after securing promotion as League One champions, but have picked up creditable results against QPR and Rotherham and been a competitive proposition for all-comers so far on their return to the Championship.

With the hectic final few days of the transfer window – and the weekend fixtures that rapidly followed – now in the rearview mirror, this marks the start of the relentless grind of games which will take the campaign up until just prior to Christmas week.

With games coming thick and fast, not to mention available points, getting this run of midweek games under way with a win would be more then welcome for either side.

Swansea City are without Morgan Gibbs-White as the on-loan Wolves midfielder faces three months out with a foot problem.

The game comes too soon for George Byers as he recovers from a groin problem, but new arrivals Ryan Manning and Ryan Bennett could make their debuts following their deadline-day arrivals from QPR and Wolves respectively.
