240 Aberhama Gold ew 12-1 ... I almost, but not quite, chose Danzan at the foot of the field, 20lb below his last winning mark, albeit some time ago. I must be doing something right!
Ran another eyecatching race and returned a nice placed runner. Nothing was catching Captain Tom Cat today.
That was a waste of time. After being held up and not reaching the leader last time, Wondrous Words was rushed into the lead and set off as if it were a 6F race. No great mystery that she could not maintain that scalded cat pace with her legs going like fiddler's elbows. You really have to wonder about jockeys sometimes. I can imagine the trainer instructing the pilot to "Keep her handier" but that doesn't translate to setting her arse on fire leaving the stalls. Earlier on Mossy Fen jumped well early on but he could never quite shake his rival for the lead. The Twiston-Davies horse tended to lose ground between fences and then make it up again with a good leap. He couldn't keep that up and got tired, with his jumping just getting a bit more scrappy as the weariness caught up with him. I would imagine he will come on from this race and when racing on softer ground he may be able to go at a more comfortable pace. Galvin was an impressive winner after stepping into his toughest contest of the season. He had far too much pace for the others and easily coped with the step up in trip. He will be no price next time in all likelihood and will be a worth opponent wherever he goes next. I might give Mossy Fen another chance when running on softer ground, as I just felt it was all happening a bit faster than was ideal for him today and Twiston-Davies may have a longer term target in mind for the 5YO who generally jumped really well today.
Afternoon all, just got home from a nice early finish to work. I do really like Rouge Vif in the next, hopefully he can carry the weight. Seems to have been OK on good ground throughout his career. Good luck if you are having a wager
Beautiful from Rouge Vif - has to be a player for the Champion Chase, that was superb. Great ride Darryl Jacob, got a lovely tune out of him.
Good shout Oddy and Steve And good shout me too, as I had a saver on RV 335 Beat The Judge - gets the nod on fitness over Rouge Vif 4 from 6, must be the new pin I bought
Reebs mate I've been watching a bit of Dave Spikey on YouTube, very funny. You seen the one he does about B&Q in Wigan?
