One of my 2 cliff horses running tomorrow, Ornate

I do wonder when a horse can get within 2½l of Battaash at level weights and within a nk of Glass Slippers, giving her just the sex allowance, and in a fast time, can go so long without a win. I can't desert him now

If it isn't Southwell on Sand, I don't want to know.

Carrignagapple 18/1 e/w (PP 4 places) - Punchestown 1.30. Horses most recent form does give him every chance here, everything would seem ripe (excuse the pun) for a repeat of his penultimate run now he returns to beyond 3 miles. From a very small barn, a leap of faith very much required here but I think the price and placings offered make it worth it.

Horse has been nibbled in from 25/1 early doors, here's hoping.

    Have a terrific Tuesday <ok>

    Each Way @ 9-2 [Bet 365]

A lot went wrong on his chasing debut, so should do better today

It is a mystery to me how Ornate can be 11/1 in two places (10/1 mostly) at time of writing. Ran very well to finish third earlier in the year on the Tapeta surface at Newcastle, with the same jockey on board. If the gelding fails to run a decent race in this, think I will have to give it all up, but I know I won't! <laugh> At the current prices on offer, guess it has to be e/w.

Oh boy, home-made Chili Con Carne for supper tonight, a proper favourite of mine! Followed by vanilla ice cream with caramel topping. Simple fare, but it's what I really like. In fact, as an old friend and colleague from Louisiana used to say .....this is rilly livin'! He used to make one hell of a Shrimp Gumbo too, in a huge black pot, so plenty left for breakfast the following morning! <laugh>

For me Sheperd's Purse could be a lucky last winner in the 8:00 Wolverhampton. Obviously this horse has a poor strike rate for win purposes but if you only look at the runs at Wolverhampton it is seldom out of the minor money. Runs today at a career low mark (9 lb below last winning mark) and the Ruth Carr yard is in much better form now (2 winners and several placed last 14 days) after having several month of the core season without a winner. Has a good draw tonight and there is a bit of money coming down. Should give a good run for each way purposes at least in my opinion. Good luck

In the 6.30 Wolverhampton Guroor seems a bit overpriced to me. Form at Wolverhampton reads 521. Last win came after a 2 month break. Tonight the horse returns after a 3 month break. Obviously needs a career best of this mark tonight but several Botti runners on the all weather recently in the money so its not impossible and Stefano Cherchi is a jockey to follow in the near future I think.

    7:30 Mdina

Didn't run without promise 2 runs ago at Wolverhampton when 6th of 13. Worth an each way bet racing of this low mark and with Luke Morris up.

Glad they've retired Laurina, relatively healthy and allowing her to live a decent life. It's a pity she had her health issues as she was a real classy animal who would have won a lot of high class races but her welfare is first and foremost. Well done all involved.

I think they need to find a 4f race for him Swanny

If he stays in training, he'll win a 5f race at Catterick on fast ground

Needed the extra furlong it usually prefers. I'll definitely give it a good luck the next time it goes over 6f

Brings back old memories does this! Do you remember around 1968/69 a real quarterhorse type, Sica Dan? He was like greased lightning over 4f, and then would start to stop. I recall an evening race at the old Kempton course in which it had a very very fast 5f track which was constructed inside the main round course, something like Sandown's sprint track today, but not exactly the same. Well, one evening when I was working in Holland, I noticed Sica Dan running in a 5f event at Kempton, on firm ground as far as I can remember. I decided to have a right old plunge on it, as I thought if he could just keep going over the last furlong, he might just last home. Off they went and Sica D. shot into the lead and was quite a few lengths up at half-way (over 5f, remember!). Came the final 220-yards, Sica Dan started to stop, but somehow had enough gas left in him to stagger over the winning line about a neck or so in front of the second horse home! Here's some blurb I found from "The Anorak" who also fondly remembers Sica Dan! I was very surprised to see he 'won five of his 16 races over two seasons (1968/69). I just remember that one Kempton race as, naturally, I had a good win. The other four wins I do not recall, probably because I was abroad during that period and didn't always have access to the UK racecards.

"The Anorak says: Sica Dan is still fondly remembered as a very fast starter who won five of his 16 races over two seasons (1968-69). A son of 1954 Arc winner Sica Boy, he was a stone below top class but might have been a champion if four-furlong races had still existed."
