Diego Armando Maradona - one of the greatest footballers to ever grace the game - has died at the age of 60. Maradona's impact on the game knows no bounds, with only the likes of Brazilian star Pele, the Netherlands Johan Cruijff and Lionel Messi coming close to the Argentine's indelible mark on football throughout the world Fellow Argentine Marcelo Bielsa has spoken about his incredibly-skilled country-mate on a handful of occasions, and despite the pair never having worked together, there was one instance where Bielsa managed the maverick Maradona. It was November 2001 and Bielsa was Argentina's national team manager at the time, overseeing the likes of Juan Roman Riquelme, Javier Zanetti and Juan Pablo Sorin on a regular basis. That trio played in Maradona's testimonial, Sorin and Zanetti on the Argentina XI, with Riquelme in the Rest of the World side. Maradona scored 2 in a 6-3 win for Argentina so Bielsa will deffo have something to say
Maradona is a cult hero in Scotland. The Tartan Army sing about him endlessly with much affection. Never has one man upset the english footballing nation as much as he did. Have to hand it to him, eh? You can think what you like, but there's no denying that he was a footballing genius.
More than a genius WJ...the best of all time without a shadow of a doubt. That's why it's so disappointing to read some of the disparaging comments about him on the day of his passing. Might I suggest some should take a long hard look in the mirror before passing comment on the greatest footballer to ever walk the planet. Of course he was flawed, but my god could that boy play football. Rest in peace Diego
I agree the most naturally gifted player ever. Had a few flaws, maybe, but who doesn't like to party?
A few flaws my god. Have you seen the tweet from Shilton who is a nice bloke but what he did was steal the world cup and he got away with it. For some like those players he will never be forgiven
Is that tweet for real? I've met shilton how he got out jumped by a midget is beyond me. Maybe shilton should talk about his night life aswell.......... Bottom line is Maradonna was the most naturally gifted player. I am English, but 66 with goal line technology? Hmmm.
Had a look at myself in the mirror and I still think he is a cheating, woman beating scum bag He has hit at least two different women, been accused of rape twice, nah good riddance.
He was a very talented footballer, not a role model, I thought most of us on here could get away from the BBC judgment scale.
If he hadn’t got his fame and fortune and hadn’t been a hero in a corrupt country he’d have been locked up. I hate men like him, talented footballer doesn’t excuse a man who can hit and rape (accused) women
Was a great player, but but like Messi never really did it in the big games, the fact he's best known for being a cheat says it all really. Not pleased he's dead, but I won't lose any sleep over his passing.
As someone said it a generational thing. When I was growing up it was Pele who was considered the greatest player, then it was Maradona and now it's Messi. Personally I thought that there were a lot of very talented footballers who didn't get the same hype because maybe they didn't have the same notoriety. George Best for example, I thought E.Gray was just as good as him. J'Cruyff another talented footballer.
Sad bastards, that in a hundred years or more of football history, there's not 1 Jock you can be proud of, you're the Accrington Stanley of international football, not England's rivals and you mean nothing to us .
Seen Maradona at Italian 90,and not even close to being the best I've seen live, like you say, Eddie Gray for me.
