I have not seen any high pressing either from Bristol City. Should I ? Has Mr Holden stated it will be part of the clubs identity and it will be present throughout the clubs pathway to its XI ?

Mr Johnson talked about identities. Styles change identities, their underlining principles do not.

BCFC - you are wasting your time. The post below proves that facts won't get past some people's blinkers......It's a shame as usually, RP talks great sense, until it comes to LJ.

So what has Dean Holden stated as his style and vision for the team? Genuine question, as I don't recall seeing it. He must have one, all managers do?

Is it pass along the backline and hoof forward? Not my cup of tea, but as proven by Big Sam and Neil Warnock, it can work.

Nepotism and default? Maybe, but the FACT is that he kept us in the top half of the Championship for 4 seasons and MADE us a lot of money at the same time.
    Coppell couldn't hack it
    Millen couldn't do it
    Delboy couldn't do it
    O'Dismal couldn't do it
    Cotterill couldn't do it

Do I want him back? No I don't

Can Deano do it? We're about to find out. I hope so.

Given time it may prove to be pass along the backline and hoof forward but Mr Holden unlike Mr Johnson has been wary of painting bold nonsense pictures of what BCFC are aiming to be. Mr Holden appears to be more Dean Warnock than saying he is Lee Guardiola.

I cannot disagree with that point. I really hope he doesn't take the Warnock route though, awful to watch regardless of the outcome, even if it were to be promotion.

Hey, you're not allowed to do that because all the haters have it deep in their skin that LJ could do no right!
All this only took us up 4/5 places in 4 years has to be some kind of joke...keeping us in the championship has been challenging for all the managers that's been appointed including the beloved Cotts.
Styles of football has also been mentioned......pressing game, abandoning it etc......it's poppycock...there is more than one way to win a football match, just ask Jose!
Dean will get it wrong sometimes and that's ok...........but for some of our fans, LJ was never allowed to.
If you set out a team to play a certain way with the players available and it works, you tend to stick to it, if injuries or players sold doesn't get you the same results, you change it.....................football is so simple..........Unfortunately with the players LJ had in his last couple of years, were not good enough and not enough gelled IMO which led to his downfall............................oh and the haters getting their way!!
Don't care what any of them say......he left us in a far better position than when he started............................................Over to you Dean!!

So do we now have a new identity and what style are we looking to achieve? Personally at present I don't really see any..

Your 'facts' are daft beyond belief.
    Context R&W Context.

It's grossly unfair to cite players from our Academy, the family silver, Bryan, Reid, Kelly etc in your 'facts'.

The only players who made a profit were Webster and Brownhill.

I wont list all 50 plus signings he made, unlike you, I have better things to do.

… and I forgot to deduct the bills for the floodlighting and heating too..!.
Ok the CLUB made a profit during LJ's tenure - that's a fact that cannot be denied - and I doubt if Transfermarkt is biased towards the Johnsons (actually what DOES uncle Pete do for a living these days?...?!!)

I don't think we'll EVER not have an LJ debate running - even if we get to the promised land there'll still be one of these threads going...….<laugh><laugh>

The use of haters sounds like the youthful poster who is giving it a rest ..

You again mentioned styles. Mr Johnson stated his intent was to create an identity that ran through the club. What was this playing identity? Its principles of play?

Mr Johnson did abandon high pressing for medium and low blocks and Mr Johnson abandoned a short passing possession game. That is a fundamental shift in intent.

Jose employs a theory called tactical periodisation at his clubs. Progress and long term planning is intrinsically linked to the five elements of play. Mr Johnson was not doing that either.

He abandoned it because it was not working with the players that he had...............had the results had gone favourable then his intent would have continued...Common sense really!!

Of course I know it was only one game, but his intent on get one over on United with Jose in charge was successful......but am fully aware, anything can happen in any one given game on the day..

I questioned what was the playing identity Mr Johnson was implementing throughout the club?

Everything follows that identity not style. Players are recruited and developed towards that big picture, a picture that has principles to govern its elements of attack, defence, transitions from defence to attack, defence to attack and sometimes set plays.

It is not common sense to them abandon this identity if you truly have one governing strategy because that means a re-evaluation of finances, training, personnel and recruitment.

He abandoned it because it was not working with the players .. Because in regards to pressing high the players he had like Famara and Djuric could not do the yards, did not have the defensive tactical intensity to do it and neither did Diony. You want intensity from the front, fill the squad with aerobic athletes with quick recoveries not bulky and big and immobile up top. More Reids not just the one.

That is what happens when you don't recruit players to fit that playing identity. All the rhetoric about dna and exhaustive recruitment was bluster.
