Wasn't forced, there are always other ways to skin a cat RP and as we know, Reid wasn't a striker so could have easily used a different player to fill in, obviously Reid showed those strengths on the training ground and LJ felt that he was the best option.....Those coaching skills!!

Not quite right? lee moved Reid to forward so was responsible for his being worth what we got … Lee wasn't head of procurement, but could say yep or don't really want/need him! But did put forward players he would like and some he got...
UNLESS someone rights a book "my time at AG AND ALL THE DIRT" we will never know.

He said he was forced to do it by injury to 3 or it might have been 4 forwards ??? so Reid was played as an experiment and it worked well till players were fit. No way was Reid going to start in front of all those players if they had been fit.

But he wasn't forced to play Reid.....Other squad players available....He seen something in Reid that he thought would work and it did......A good managers job..
Same with Gareth Bale, started out as a left back when he went to Spurs and was given a chance to go up front due to Spurs injuries.........Nothing forced, like with most players, work out their best positions...Not rocket science!!

I seem to recall the same thing with a certain Sir Geoff Hurst being promoted to the side, due to an injury to Jimmy Greaves, remind me how that went again..... I don't recall hearing anyone saying Sir Alf was lucky.....<doh><doh>

LJ was trusted with the job of his dreams, granted the fantastic club support, the great facilities and most of all he was given time to achieve success and fulfill his promises, to be fair he did achieve moderate success and took the plaudits, the cracks started to appear, he was still given time but targets were missed, he was sacked, he paid the ultimate price for failure, he has gone, strangely the club seems to have survived and has moved forward.

I really do hope LJ gets back into a good job soon.

Can't say I disagree with any of that........................Leaving a club, that has managed to become consistently competitive for four years in the 2nd tier of English football.....first manager to do so in over 40 years.. Outstanding achievement, leaving the club in a great position to progress further and hopefully one day, hit the heights of the Premier League................................................You forgot that bit Wiz! :emoticon-0103-cool:<laugh>

There is so much there I could disagree with, it's all about perception and peoples choice, if you and others were satisfied with the performances, quality and standards of the last 4.5 years, great, thats your judgement and choice, I was bored stiff with the whole set up, apart from a couple of outstanding results I suffered from the mediocrity, sheer boredom and lack of success of the playing side of our club, I stopped going.

I don't accept that staying a respectable Championship club for 4/5 years is a mark of esteem, success or is an outstanding achievment, to me that is just settling for less and lowering our visions, making things appear better than they were, anyway the man has gone, time to move on and as you say hit the heights.

he was forced to do it because of injuries. No way was he intending to leave out four forwards for Reid and Patterson. Johnson said the analysts had seen something in the stats that Reid and Patterson could do the job and because of injury he experimented with that . It went well Pre season and because he had that 3/4??Out of action he went with Reid and Patterson to start the season. Till his injured forwards came back into action.it was forced by injury 100%.. it ice common sense to see that he had no planned this because he blown his pot on forwards who couldn’t do what reid did. He had not bought replacements for reids flat out running role. When famara came back into the team. LJ tried to press again but famara was blowing out of his arse not fit enough trying to press that was the end of the high pressing game. No more two up top charging down the opposition. Personally I think it was a real pity he had not planned to go that way rather than the tombola football.

You ain't getting it, He wasn't forced to Play Reid up front, it was a managers decision under the circumstances....it's what managers do for gods sake.
Who's to say, had the injuries to our forwards at the time wouldn't have gone on and earned us promotion? We are never gonna know.
If LJ would have only had 11 players from a squad to choose from, that might well be something forced..

NB. Are you and Cliftonville the same person or Brothers? :emoticon-0105-wink:

Oh and there's always talk of the millions wasted by LJ (which isn't true), have people forgotten that the current manager in place was brought in by LJ, saving us billions on the likes of Houghton, Gerrard & Terry etc? .........................perhaps another bad signing by the little man!! Just saying :emoticon-0127-lipss

I think your agreeing ??? with posters that circumstance forced LJs hand to do what he did which is what LJ said happened. Why didn’t he stay with it???

Blimey, with your logic, most players wouldn't get there chances in a team....it's not forced it's management....He stayed with it because it worked <doh> who wouldn't.
LJ made the call, made the decision, like with any good manager....It's normally how you pick a team....trial and error.
Gareth Bale, Thierry Henry to name two changed positions by their managers...it's nothing new.......not forced but became better for it.

NB: you didn't answer the question!!

No to the question unless I was adopted for being rude and surly and not so bright at one my question now why didn’t Lee Johnson stick with it? Why did LJ buy forwards that he wasn’t going to use like Milan Duroc to stick them on the bench and use attacking midfielders as centre forwards instead??

Because they were supposed to be natural forwards. Reid was trialled to do the job like any other player..LJ could have brought in forwards from the academy..
It was an option that was available at the time.......nothing forced to play Reid up front. Reid gelled when given the chance..again nothing new.
Again, who's to say had Reid made a hash of it, who ever took his place would have gone on and scored even more.......TBH, LJ could have loaned in some players and been even more prolific, but he didn't and made his choice......Management..

Players don't necessarily stay in the position that they start off in. Bentley started off as a Centre Back when playing non-league but he happened to be playing in goal, covering for the usual GK, when the Arsenal scouts were watching and they took him as a Goalkeeper!!
Sometimes a player is required to play out of their normal position and a diamond is uncovered, but it's not all 100% down to luck - Bentley must have shown SOME goalkeeping ability in the first place to be chosen on that day - just like Reid did.
