Guthrie has more experience but Gosling is younger and has more potential. I'd play Gosling before Guthrie.

Why does everyone rate Gosling more than Guthrie? Does anyone remember Guthries excellent form towards the end of last season when called upon? Was MOTM against Man Utd and Spurs. Goslings hardly played in 2 years yet he's better than Guthrie? Get real.

This! People are rating him from his time at Everton...who's fans were glad to see the back of him.

I don't rate Guthrie at all really at this level so I would hope Gosling is the better option. I would have thought Abeid/Gosling would be our back up and we'd moving on the likes of Guthrie and Smith. However it may be as an U21 international and having already missed significant amounts of football, that Gosling feels he needs to play.

Edit: From when I've seen Gosling I have to say I haven't been impressed.

We've also go vuckic who can play in the centre as cover if he is needed. Could be a good move to let gosling get game time. Gutherie has more experience than gosling but gosling looks like he will be a far better player given time and games.

I'd rather see Alan Smith loaned to somebody, preferably until June.

Better for him to get some competitive games under his belt. As long as Cabaye and Tiote are fit he wont get a look in. Guthrie may aswell sit on the bench. His contract is up end of the season so he will be let go. Gsling in the meantime gets match fit and confidence in time for stepping up in January.

Good call in my opinion. Long as they included a can be recalled clause in case Cabaye or Tiote pick up knocks before the new year.

Very good assessment of Guthrie, sums up my sentiments almost exactly. I understand Gosling going on loan but hope its only until January and just to get him up to fitness. Also does anyone else think Jonas could play CM quite easily when Tiote is away to ACoN. A Midfield of Obertan---Cabaye---Jonas----Marveaux would be a match for most team IMO.

Think its only 1 month (including warm up games) at the most depending how far Ivory Coast progress.

Have to say my single biggest gripe with the lad is his insistence on giving free kicks away in dangerous areas through petty challenges. It does my head and is a killer in the PL where all teams are very set piece smart. Then after that it's his general laziness, the guy just goes missing. Look at Tiote and Cabaye, they're always involved.

Guthries not offensively terrible, but he's terminally average in every respect, with a Geremi-esque assist total to make him look better. He's the guy in your pub team who thinks they're Steven Gerrard and knocks hollywood passes cross field when theres a simple pass to be made, which means every so often he'll hit a perfect pass which leads to a chance, but more often than not just give away an awful lot of throwins. That in itself isn't a huge issue for a backup player, but as a central midfielder who lacks the ability (or desire) to track his man he leaves us in bother in the middle of the park. Its a Simpson-esque trait that could be coached out of him if he had the drive to do so, but I just don't see it.

It was bad enough when he'd come into a midfield for Nolan, but for him to replace Cabaye (or worse, Tiote!) is frankly worrying.

I think its just January? Our fixtures that month are Man Utd, QPR and Fulham.

Good idea. We need him fully match fit for Chrismtas and New Year. He won't be if he's on the bench for us.

Definatly a good move to loan him out and get him up to speed for January. Guthrie is more reliable back up at the moment anyways. Sensible decision in my view. On another note, I know it's not seen as wise to change a winning formula, but I would start Santon for R.Taylor and Ben Arfa for Obertan/Best for the Tottenham game. HWTL

    This.

As far as Gosling is concerned, I think a short loan spell up until xmas would do him the world of good.

I don't think we can judge him until he's match fit and had a string of games - that wont happen here so it's best he drops down to the Champ' to regain his full match fitness.

    Guthrie not that bad guys!

For REAL! did anyone see his performances against Man United were he started in the centre, we drew 0-0 and his performance was near MOTM-standard. <yikes>

Sure he isn't a top/class player but he can hold his own in the EPL and IMO is good cover. <ok>

Think it will be a good for Gosling to go out on loan. Not getting much of a look in and will bang them in and gain confidence in the Championship. Plus, Doncaster play good football!

He shouldnt be higher rated than Guthrie, who has turned in some very good performances wen given a run of games. Gosling is still young and not fully fit following his injury though so I think a short loan will do him good.

Presumably (or rather hopefully) there is an immediate return clause in this deal as the cover is Guthrie, Abeid and Smith. Guthrie is injury prone, Abeid is very inexperienced and Smith is shocking.
