People who voted Leave were looking to get out of the failing Superstate. Most of us have no issue with the people of Europe just the undemocratic political institution that is destroying it.

When Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain introduce travel visas and drive away all those British tourists, I am sure they will find some other means of employing thousands of their citizens and the ECB will happily print some more Euros to keep their countries running while the Germans pick up the bill.

I have no real desire to trawl again over the whys and wherefores of Brexit but the reason for the leave vote really had little to do with the institution and a lot of to do with Britain being an island.

When Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain introduce travel visas and drive away all those British tourists, I am sure they will find some other means of employing thousands of their citizens and the ECB will happily print some more Euros to keep their countries running while the Germans pick up the bill.

Once they know there will be few Britains in those places I am sure far more North Europeans will feel its safe to visit!

Was that your last contradiction of the year or is there still time for another?

There are “non lockdowns” to use for comparison. You subsequently mentioned one: Sweden.

It would appear that many of the countries that had lockdowns have fared little better than laissez faire Sweden. We know that the government peddle the “protect the NHS” excuse in the UK but what lame excuses do they use in other countries?

Business sense indicates that it is much easier to obtain repeat orders from existing customers than it is to cultivate relationships with new customers.

Logic therefore decrees that the Mediterranean nations, whose economies are heavily dependent upon tourism for their existence, will simply not introduce visas and other obstructions. The EU has shown repeatedly that it is willing to cut off its nose to spite its face because it is undemocratic and answers to no-one, but the EU member nations are not compelled to follow EU guidelines on the treatment of British visitors so I fully expect many of them to have visa waivers. As I have no plans to visit, I view the matter with insouciance.

The prime minister said a deal means no tariff or non-tariff barriers - but is the latter actually true?

The increase in red tape (form filling, checks etc) that comes with leaving the EU single market means, economists say, there will be non-tariff barriers, i.e more hurdles to clear than at present.

The European Commission too states that the “EU and UK will form two separate markets, two distinct regulatory and legal spaces. This will create barriers to trade in goods and services.”

And extra barriers equals extra costs; the extra admin alone, the tax office says could cost British business £7.5bn.

I have seen this first hand as I am sure many of you that have businesses dealing in goods imported to the UK will also. The financial cost of no longer being in the EU will in the businesses that I know of equate to a cost of around 2% in value. I will give you one guess as to what that wonderful customer TESCO has told ALL its suppliers they can do with their 2% increase. Far better than the 14% on top of this that many businesses would have had to pay under WTO rules but nonetheless there are sure to be increases to pay by the end user.

You want to know more about bad government? Just take a peek at the USA's response to Covid19. Last Tuesday, the deaths attributed to the virus passed 3400 in a single day, it was the fifth time Covid19 had surpassed 3000 in a 24 hour period. News.com.au states that one American dies every 33 seconds from virus.

The middle of Christmas Eve when the gaffer has gone home was a good time for the Brexit Deal to be announced because I could watch online.

Ursula von der Leyden led Michael Barnier in the EU requiem mass, trying to put a gloss on the departure of the second largest contributor because its idea of sovereignty was a little too much in its own national interest.
Remainers will delight in the fact that there is a Deal, there are still some ties to the EU and, they will conclude, this pitiful little island has conceded to the almighty European Union. But of course they have no idea about any of the conditions in the small print anymore than the rest of us as the text of the Deal stretches to hundreds of pages that nobody has yet read.

Boris Johnson tried to avoid being too triumphal in announcing that an agreement had been reached although he can obviously accept the credit having stood for election on a mandate of “Get Brexit Done”. At first glance it would appear that a sovereign nation has tariff free access to EU markets and they have access to ours.
Leavers will delight in the fact that the Deal appears to return the making of laws exclusively to a Parliament that we elect; to have those laws judged by our own courts; and to give us sovereignty over our waters and control of our borders. But of course they have no idea about any of the conditions in the small print anymore than the rest of us as the text of the Deal stretches to hundreds of pages that nobody has yet read.

Without seeing any précis of the Deal, it does appear that Lord Frost has done a remarkable job by starting out with a clearly defined objective and playing hardball. We do appear to have obtained a position where we are now a sovereign entity with equivalence to the European Union, in a position to trade with it without tariffs, under the jurisdiction of our courts. It also highlights what a bad job was done by his predecessors on the Withdrawal Agreement that Barnier and the EU were allowed to dictate because they obfuscated about something they did not really believe in.

It looks like the plan is to rush the Deal through Parliament without proper scrutiny, so in a year from now we may be regretting not having properly studied the small print as the devil is usually in the detail. Quite whether they will act with such haste in Brussels and 26 other capitals remains to be seen.

Not touched any class A drugs in years. Nice try though.

A loser, to me, is someone that gave life to ****ty kids then pretends to kill themselves repeatedly for attention. Literally the definition of a loser.
