So what do you think Deano's style/ identity is now? What is the intent of Bristol City after parting company with LJ?

You have a thing regarding Southampton, whom for many seasons have been poor with a history of yoyoing between the two top divisions bit like Norwich (whom I much prefer), West Brom etc but also nearly going bust only 10 years ago. They became renowned as a selling club for players, a market place for the likes of Liverpool etc.
The few seasons of being in the prem, they have been year on year fighting relegation and are only doing well this season because they kept faith with their current coach and bought in some decent players (unlike them). Your admiration for them have become an obsession slightly erotic IMO!!..I don't much see the attraction..
The days of Mick Channon & co I quite liked, but for me, they are a club, that when featured on Match of the Day, I'd change channels!! :emoticon-0103-cool:

The intent of the club is obvious, they have a man they know, a man they know they can manipulate, on a short term roll over contract, 2 new coaches and all for the same price of a more renown coach, whom they probably could not manipulate, what's not too like for Mr Ashton and co?

I sort of get the impression that SL uses promotion within as a form of punishment to the fans.

    Obsession/erotic? et vous mon ami.

I agree with the majority of this - but not the bit about ‘punishing the fans’. I honestly believe that SL wants the Premiership, but is determined to do it HIS way - by using untried or relatively inexperienced managers in the hope that he might unearth the next Jose Mourinho or Jurgen Klopp.
The fans - I don’t think he considers us much. He might think of us as being ungrateful considering the money he has invested but I honestly don’t think he considers us when hiring/firing. He’s more interested in maintaining control and although as a fan that frustrates me I do get that it’s difficult to relinquish control when you’ve invested so much of your own money.

Maybe you are right but you have highlighted the problem, I know nothing is ever guaranteed by throwing money at it but the approach is more in hope than expectation sadly.

What do I think? Not a lot. Its early days. Mr Holden is still at the storming stage where he will be implementing his ideas. I have yet to hear Mr Holden make a unequivocal statement regarding identity unlike his predecessor, his criteria could be wholly different. The front foot football he has referred to is not occurring.

You have a thing regarding Southampton ... Southampton are an international renowned model of developmental excellence. Bristol City are ranked 35th in England in regards to the numbers of pros BCFC develop. I have also mentioned Swansea's approach prior to its takeover. Both clubs are sensible parallels to BCFC and both are far more successful on the pitch.

So Southampton being such a model as you point out, should be one of the wealthiest and top European clubs in England. Nope! :emoticon-0103-cool:

I still maintain that Lansdown is more than happy with mid table Championship obscurity, every season.

I see no plan, and moreover no willingness to really try and push for the Premiership.

Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, PSG, Real Madrid AND Southampton.

Why should Southampton be one of the wealthiest clubs in Europe?

That is only based over the last few years, we will see if that model continues there as top clubs rely more and more on instant success.....
Works different for the likes of the very big clubs, Southampton model are more for profit to inject into the club....IMO will only last if the demand is there!
Why should Southampton be one of the wealthiest clubs in Europe?
With the millions made on players sold..

It was not based upon a couple of years. Clubs in list have been amongst the richest in Europe for frequently longer than a couple of years. Its is not based upon instant success. Arsenal remained one of wealthiest clubs without winning trophies, so did one I missed noting Liverpool.

The richest clubs in Europe wealth does not come from their sales of players. Why should Southampton be one of the wealthiest clubs in Europe?

Arsenal remained one of wealthiest clubs without winning trophies why? that should also answer your question!!
I said few, not a couple, specifically towards Southampton.

Sorry but you have not answered this question - Why should Southampton be one of the wealthiest clubs in Europe?

Arsenal. Their long standing historical position in English football. Their position in a major capital city. Long standing broadcasting and commercial links to Asia. Increasing sponsorship deals ..If you click - ARFF 2004 Layout (deloitte.com) the link is fourteen years ago, Arsenal were one of wealthiest clubs in Europe twenty years ago . . They still are now. A lot of revenue amongst top clubs stays there. That is capitalism.

This goes away from the original point. Southampton, Swansea and Brentford are meaningful parallels to BCFC not Europe's super clubs. All are achieving more than BCFC.

You are the one that pointed out Arsenal!!
Plenty of clubs, All in the premiership. and nearly all in the Championship, many in League 1, have achieved more than Bristol City....Nothing at all to do with having the best academies!!
Although nice, it would defeat the object if all clubs had top class academies. .
Crewe renowned as a lower club filtering players do it to survive.
It's a good model to have, but not the only one to be successful!
Jose renowned rarely used or uses academy players!!
